I've listened to this performance so many times in the past month. It is remarkable!!! The last track, Sonny, Booker and Dexter are trying to out do each other. In the end Sonny seems to win the battle. I would have loved to been at this performance. The intensity is so high, and to have all these great tenor players on one show could never happen again.

The 6 Tenor Giants

Berliner Jazztage, Philharmonie Berlin/Germany, 29th October 1965 (MP2)

Ben Webster (1)

Don Byas, ts (2)

Brew Moore (3)

Booker Ervin (4, 7)

Sonny Rollins (6, 7)

Dexter Gordon (7)

Kenny Drew, p

Niels-Henning Oersted Pedersen, b

Alan Dawson, dr

setlist:

01 How Long Has This Been Going On 08:57

02 I Remember Clifford 07:35

03 Jumpin' With Symphony Sid 05:15

04 Blues For You 27:27

05 announcements by Goetz Kronburger 01:07

06 St Thomas 02:53

07 Scrapple From The Apple 21:11

Anyone can think of any other shows?

The Fletcher Henderson band trading sets with Jean Goldkette's band (with Bix) at Roseland, October, 1926.

Of course, if had heard this, I'd likely be dead now. Might be worth it, though....

Plus you would have heard the show in better fidelity then anything that could have been recorded.

I'd have loved to sit in the Sing Sing Room at the Confucius Restaurant in NYC 1955 to hear Lee Konitz with Tristano.

Second would probably be King Oliver and Pops at Lincoln Gardens, followed by Ellington in Fargo.

The other day, I was working in Toronto and walked by Massey Hall.

I've been to the Vanguard and the Lighthouse and the Appolo. Keystone and Carnegie Hall. But somehow, Massey Hall struck me. Then again, my name is BeBop.
