mikeweil Posted July 7, 2025 Posted July 7, 2025 (edited) Listening to several recordings of sonatas for viola and keyboard by Johnn Gottlieb Graun, from these CDs - heard one performed live last night. A very underestimated composer. Many people seem to believe that he composed negligible music due to his post as concert master at Frederick's court in Berlin, but that's totally mislead! He was one of the best string players in Europe during his lifetime. Edited July 7, 2025 by mikeweil Quote

I've owned the physical CDs (2017 reissue of 2002 release) for quite a while. Being on Brilliant they didn't cost much, plus I like the Stamitz Quartet. Edited July 7, 2025 by T.D. Quote
psu_13 Posted July 7, 2025 Posted July 7, 2025 Back in the day I bought two or three of these in their original form on the Bayer label. But having all of them now is great. Quote
JSngry Posted July 8, 2025 Posted July 8, 2025 The only recordings by this group. The Ravel & Milhaud were recorded under the supervision of their composers, and this the very first recording of the Berg. Quote
