Free For All Posted February 6, 2010 Report Posted February 6, 2010 What's up with all those weird jazz compilations that have appeared lately? They seem to be very randomly organized. Quote
okierambler Posted February 8, 2010 Report Posted February 8, 2010 What's up with all those weird jazz compilations that have appeared lately? They seem to be very randomly organized. Apparently some quasi-legal European reissue house, probably out of Italy or some other country where copyright laws are very... shall we say... lenient. Quote
Hoppy T. Frog Posted February 16, 2010 Report Posted February 16, 2010 The Cuneiform label added! Nice. Quote
mjzee Posted February 26, 2010 Report Posted February 26, 2010 I notice they now have the Savoy label, including the former 32Jazz material. Beginning to look tempting... Quote
Dave James Posted February 26, 2010 Report Posted February 26, 2010 (edited) The new Hadley Caliman is nice. I DL'ed it last weekend. Any 3 track reccomendations? At the end of the month again. Im lookin for avant jazz or any classical. David S. Ware - "The Freedom Suite" It's 4 tracks, so you'll have one to look forward to when your account refreshes. This is what pisses me off about the new e-music. It used to be that an album with four songs would take four credits. Now, the four tunes from Ware's album cost you 12 credits. That's total B.S. Well, that's a label-by-label decision. Some labels switched to album pricing, while others remain track-by-track. I doubt that particular Ware album is any cheaper at iTunes. For me it meant altering the way I buy stuff there. I look for the "bargains" on stuff that I want and pass over things (for example the Ware) that I don't think is worth album pricing. I just downloaded a 30-track Red Records comp (that I believe was a 3-disc set) for only 12 credits. Quote

okierambler Posted May 6, 2010 Report Posted May 6, 2010 Here's an idea: when we post our latest downloads, let's tack on a rating for the one's we've actually heard enough to form an opinion. I suggest using one to five stars (hate it to love it), since that's the system used by emusic. Anthony Braxton Eugene (1989) Peter Brotzmann, etc. Up and Down the Lion-Revised **** Hamiet Bluiett Young Warrior, Old Warrior **** Marc Copland Night Whispers **** Ellery Eskelin Jazz Trash Herbie Hancock Mwandishi ***** Gerry Hemingway The Whimbler Steve Lacy Soprano Sax ***** Daniel Levin Quartet Live at Roulette **** Misha Mengelberg Solo Marial Solal w/ Dave Douglas Rue De Seine John Tichicai Grandpa's Spells ** Ken Vandermark, etc. c.o.d.e. Dave James Posted May 12, 2010 Report Posted May 12, 2010 I'm pretty unhappy with the way eMusic has started handling popular recordings. I was going to DL two or three Eagles songs the other night, but everything they have available is on an "album only" basis. That forces you to buy an entire release when that's not what you want. I don't know, what these guys seem to be best at is coming up with new ways to make them harder to deal with. This used to be best deal out there. At one point, I was getting 90 DL's a month for $20.00. It's now down to 50 for the same $20.00. Then it was albums that "cost" more credits that there were tunes and now this. I'm staying the course for now, but a few more tweaks like these and I'm history. Quote
