sonnymax Posted May 13, 2010 Report Posted May 13, 2010 It's my understanding that the record labels, not Emusic, dictate the "album-only" format, as well as the policy of charging 12 credits for titles that have less than 12 tracks. Quote
Uncle Skid Posted May 13, 2010 Report Posted May 13, 2010 I can understand the logic in charging 12 credits for titles that have less than that -- if I download 45 minutes (for example) of music, does it really matter if that time consists of 3 tracks, or 12? Album only on certain tracks not so much -- I fail to see how that is much different than 45-rpm "singles" that were available for purchase for less than the price of the entire album. All of that aside, I find myself checking Amazon first before downloading _anything_ from eMusic. There has been more than a few times when Amazon was more economical. Quote

mjzee Posted June 18, 2010 Report Posted June 18, 2010 Cecil Taylor's "2 Ts for a Lovely T" just hit, if you have a spare 120 credits... Cecil Taylor - eMusic Quote
mjzee Posted June 25, 2010 Report Posted June 25, 2010 I downloaded one of my favorite long-lost albums: A soulful classic of R&B! Nothing but covers, so it shouldn't have been so good, but it is!!! I had it on an ultra-cheapo LP from Columbia's Harmony label, titled Ooh-Poo-Pah-Doo: Ebay What a great cover, too! Was it by John Van Hamersveld? Quote
RDK Posted June 25, 2010 Report Posted June 25, 2010 Cecil Taylor's "2 Ts for a Lovely T" just hit, if you have a spare 120 credits... Cecil Taylor - eMusic Or $9.99 from Limewire. Quote

Dave James Posted June 26, 2010 Report Posted June 26, 2010 This isn't jazz, but if you're a fan of The Marshall Tucker Band, do not under any circumstances pass up Toy Caldwell's solo album, Son Of The South. There's some mighty fine music on that one. I was shocked when I stumbled across it the other day. If I recall correctly, I paid something like $35.00 for the CD. Quote

He hipped me to this band: Five A Slide Also new to eMusic: The Cool Sound of Pepper Adams (Savoy) Lee Konitz - Live at the Village Vanguard Quote
randyhersom Posted July 2, 2010 Report Posted July 2, 2010 (edited) Oh yeah, you've got to hear the Roswell Rudd with Sheila Jordan: Flexible Flyer Just 4 credits at the moment. Oddly short track times listed on the AEC dates. Edited July 2, 2010 by randyhersom Quote
RDK Posted July 2, 2010 Report Posted July 2, 2010 Yeah, many of the Black Lion/1201s appear to be incomplete. Also note, per the CDs that I have, several of the CDs are needle drops. Quote
mjzee Posted July 3, 2010 Report Posted July 3, 2010 This might be a mistake (might not be), so you'd best act now: Ben Sidran - Talking Jazz box Only 12 credits! Quote
Dave James Posted July 3, 2010 Report Posted July 3, 2010 I've been seriously looking at buying this box set for the last couple of months. The going rate is something like $250.00. To say the least, this is a bit more reasonable. Thanks for the heads up, mjzee. I'm downloading it right now. Quote
Uncle Skid Posted July 3, 2010 Report Posted July 3, 2010 Outstanding!!! Thanks for posting that, mjzee. Nice writeup on Von Freeman by Kevin Whitehead: Von Freeman's Swing, Bebop, Avant-Garde Thing Also, a new recording from Von that I wasn't aware of until today: Lockin' Horns Quote

sonnymax Posted July 16, 2010 Report Posted July 16, 2010 Yeah, many of the Black Lion/1201s appear to be incomplete. Also note, per the CDs that I have, several of the CDs are needle drops. I contacted eMusic after reading and corroborating your post. They said they would look into it, yet today I see they put several new 1201 titles on their website, again with tracks missing. They claim the record company is responsible for the error, but it's their decision to keep selling incomplete albums. Quote

Knowingly selling something that is incomplete is just plain wrong. On a more positive note, check out fellow board member David Weiss' latest release Snuck In. A live date featuring David on trumpet, J.D. Allen on tenor sax, Nir Felder on guitar, Matt Clohesy on bass, and Jamire Williams on drums - it's a burner! And it's only 5 credits! :: Quote
