Reacquainting myself with Archie Shepps's Impulse recordings after many years with the release of the 5 Original Albums set.

 

I see it contains my favourite Archie Shepp: The Way Ahead. I think I'll put the Japanese CD from 1992 on next:

Music from this date 66 years ago --

Disc 1 and the first 5 tracks of Disc 2, which complete the concert.  Lots of the usual suspects are on hand.  Billie Holiday sounds in good voice on her one feature ("Lover Man").

Every few months I revisit this video and every time it just devastates me --

 

Is there a word to describe something which gives you goosebumps, curls your toes, makes you cry and makes you smile all simultaneously?  Because that's the word I need to describe this performance.
