And one of the highlights is the Rollins Philly J.J. duo "Surrey with the Fringe on Top". Cliff Craft is my favourite Cliff Jordan from his three CDs he did for BN. I also have the japanes edition Card Board cover, I never saw an else edition and even in the early 2000´s when we still had CD Shops, most BN where RVG-Editions, but this one allways was a more expensive japanese edition. 5 hours ago, EKE BBB said: All of Herbies albums for BN are great. Maybe this one is the hardest to listen to, being without horns . Quite a strange thing. I doubt it sold as well as did "Cantaloupe Island" with Hubbard or "Mayden Voyage" with both Hubbard and George Coleman. Quote

HutchFan Posted July 26, 2019 Report Posted July 26, 2019 David Friedman - Futures Passed (Enja, 1976) Outstanding. Very ECM-ish. (Even the cover image.) ... When people talk about vibraphonists (which, admittedly, isn't very often; but I love the instrument), Friedman's name doesn't come up much. That said, I've enjoyed everything I've heard from him. Exciting soloist. Interesting composer. What's not to like?!?! ... Also, Harvie Swartz's bass playing here gets a gold star. Quote

Are you familiar with Levy's Tempus Fugue-It with the same trio? It came out on Interplay in 1977. Another excellent record. Edited July 26, 2019 by HutchFan added image Quote
Justin V Posted July 26, 2019 Report Posted July 26, 2019 (edited) Disc 2: This expanded reissue has such deluxe packaging. I was pretty shocked at how much care went into it. The music and presentation are worth the premium price. Edited July 26, 2019 by Justin V Quote
jazzbo Posted July 26, 2019 Report Posted July 26, 2019 Music on that Armstrong is excellent as well! Right now Thelonious Monk "Monk's Dream" Mobile Fidelity SACD. Did a brief comparison between this and the ORG SACD. Both sound good. I think I'll be letting the ORG go though. Quote
HutchFan Posted July 26, 2019 Report Posted July 26, 2019 Such jammy, fun music by such talented musicians. Never tire of this. Is Gateway 2 as good as this one? For whatever reason, I've never heard it. Quote
jazzbo Posted July 26, 2019 Report Posted July 26, 2019 Hank Mobley "Soul Station" XRCD. Been a long time since I spun this one; last time it was the mono version on Platinum SHM-CD Quote
