jazzbo Posted August 16, 2019 Report Posted August 16, 2019 Yesterday I got a box in from CDJapan with the August 14 batch of 80th Anniversary Blue Note cd reissues. Listened so far to: Lou Donaldson "Gravy Train". . . this is a great date with great tunes and Lou's horn sounds glorious. Lonnie Smith "Drives" . . . .funky and driving bottom end on this one. Horace Silver "Serenade to a Soul Sister" . . . nice sound, Turrentine and Cobham especially are standing out in the current presentation my system is delivering. jazzbo Posted August 16, 2019 Report Posted August 16, 2019 Now, Eddie Gale "Black Rhythm Happenin's" Blue Note Japan 2019 cd. I've always loved this record, and it sounds very good on this release. Elvin Jones! I like the Water Records cd as well. Quote
jazzbo Posted August 16, 2019 Report Posted August 16, 2019 Bennie Green "Soul Stirrin'" Blue Note 80th Anniversary reissue CD from Japan. I've always loved this session and Gene Ammons adds so much to this one. Sound is great on this reissue. Quote
HutchFan Posted August 16, 2019 Report Posted August 16, 2019 (edited) NP: JazzCuba, Vol. 5: Irakere (Rumor Records) From what I've been able to gather from Irakere's VERY confusing discography, this is a reissue of a 1976 studio album recorded in Havana -- with two bonus tracks. Originally, the album was simply titled Grupo Irakere (EGREM/Areito), as shown below:  Also, earlier this morning (via YT): Irakere - 2 (Columbia) Studio album recorded in NYC in 1979, after the success of their first Columbia record made at Newport & Montreux. This is much less jazz-oriented, more commercial (Let's DISCO, baby!) compared to the album above -- but it's still interesting.    48 minutes ago, jazzbo said: Bennie Green "Soul Stirrin'" Blue Note 80th Anniversary reissue CD from Japan. HutchFan Posted August 16, 2019 Report Posted August 16, 2019 Frank Foster & the Loud Minority Big Band - Manhattan Fever (Denon, 1978) Not to be confused with Foster's earlier BN release with the same title.   Quote
