Rabshakeh Posted March 19, 2021 Report Posted March 19, 2021 (edited) The Sam Rivers Quartet with Anthony Braxton playing on Live San Francisco 1978. A really good performance, and a real kick to hear such different musicians play against each other. This time with added tuba. It also has a rare chance to hear Rivers comping on piano behind a horn player - something that I don't think I have heard before. I think it is just a boot, but it sounds fantastic and could really do with a formal release. I think that Ricochet, one of the recent live releases on NoBusiness, came from the same residency. Listening to this now, fascinating. I hope it's on No Business's radar Quote

(Have only seen Slide once, in 1984 in an interesting lineup: Jimmy Deuchar (tpt), Slide (tbn), Johnny Griffin (tnr), Dave Cliff (gtr), Peter Ind (bs), Al Levitt (dms).) P.S. Forgot I also saw him in the Dizzy Gillespie United Nations Orchestra in 1991. Quote
Rabshakeh Posted March 19, 2021 Report Posted March 19, 2021 Big John Patton's Accent on the Blues (Blue Note, 1969) For some reason I like this one a lot more than Boogaloo. Now listening to: Marchin' On by the Heath Brothers (Strata-East 1975). Quote

Me too. On most days, Accent is my favorite BJP. NP: Gary Thomas & Seventh Quadrant - Code Violations (Enja) Good thing Gary Thomas is so tough. You GOTTA be tough to walk with a puma on a leash among the pyramids. In all seriousness, this music is badass. Quote
