Started off with this one again after getting my second Pfizer shot this morning. This live stuff is comforting and always intrigues me with its charm.

"The Complete Pacific Jazz Live Recordings of the Chet Baker Quartet with Russ Freeman" disc 3

Then it was this high energy live set: Freddie Hubbard "Keystone Bop--Sunday Night"

And to chill out a bit this beautiful recording. . . .

Eliane Elias "Kissed by Nature"

I love that disc.  Hank Jones as a solo performer was just as great as Hank Jones in a trio setting.  He was gracious enough to autograph my copy of this CD when I saw him at the Stanford Jazz Festival many years ago.

Now playing:

Disc 2 of 2.  NBC All Star Parade of Bands radio broadcasts from 1953 with Konitz, Kamuca and Holman in the sax section.

True enough. Hank was the first pianist in the Thad Jones- Mel Lewis Band and his solos (studio or live with that band are marvelous). Replaced by Roland Hanna who wasn't too bad either!

Now listening to this fine CD:

Surely one of the best big band records of the last thirty years.

Now playing:

Ibsen’s Ghosts by Joe McPhee.

I love his and Jen Bishop’s fat tones on this record. Much gutsier than the competition.
