jazzbo Posted August 10, 2022 Report Posted August 10, 2022 Nucleus & Ian Carr "Torrid Zone: The Vertigo Recordings 1970-1975" disc 2 Listening to this disc 2 again. It has a really nice blend of jazz and funk and that sort of unique British verve that King Crimson and other seminal prog bands were beginning to mine. Quote
JSngry Posted August 10, 2022 Author Report Posted August 10, 2022 This is a REALLY good record. And this was more than unexpected surprise: Who knew?!?!?!?!?!?!?! Quote
jazzbo Posted August 10, 2022 Report Posted August 10, 2022 Continuing my way through the Tania Maria catalog. Tania Maria "Viva Brazil" Concord Picante cd Bass – Carlos Werneck, Marc Bertaux Drums – Stéphane Huchard Drums, Percussion – Luiz Augusto Cavani Percussion – Mestre Carneiro Piano, Vocals, Synthesizer, Producer – Tania Maria Saxophone, Flute, Clarinet – Claudio De Queiroz This one is a Tania Maria production, and I like it a lot. There's a real sameness to her catalog, but if the music is this good it's not a problem! Quote

HutchFan Posted August 10, 2022 Report Posted August 10, 2022 NP: Jimmy Smith - Bluesmith (Verve, 1972) features some superb tenor work by Teddy Edwards Smith's Root Down (also issued in '72) may have been more contemporary -- and it definitely made a bigger splash -- but I like Bluesmith better. Bass – George Mraz Drums – Victor Lewis Piano – Jim McNeely Tenor Saxophone – Stan Getz Trumpet – Chet Baker I have read so much about that tour, I think mostly in some book about Chet Baker. The music must be great and it has a fantastic rhythm section. But I heard it was almost impossible to make it happen, because away from music they almost were fighting, I mean two live long junkies with bad temper, and though Chet was playing better than ever since his comeback and mostly over here in Europe, Stan Getz was the bigger name...
