Or just a Columbia set that includes the Charlie Christian material. Great idea! Maybe they can convince the Goodman estate to allow the release of the Goodman/Christian and Goodman/Prez material in the Savory collection. Do people remember the Lp where they spliced together Christian solos from different takes of the same song? Edited January 27, 2024 by medjuck Quote
Rabshakeh Posted January 27, 2024 Report Posted January 27, 2024 (edited) Sonore (Mats Gustafsson, Ken Vandermark and Peter Brotzmann) - No One Ever Works Alone I've been listening to a lot of WSQ recently and the difference between that supergroup and this supergroup is pretty stark. Much more so than WSQ v Rova. The different ways that the European* free jazz musicians handle counterpoint and rhythm really shows through in this context. Edit: Ken Vandermark of course is not European, but it is also hard to see him as the lead here. Edited January 27, 2024 by Rabshakeh Quote

jazzbo Posted January 27, 2024 Report Posted January 27, 2024 Really enjoying the music of Orrin Evans this year. This one is about five years into his 26 year or so career, nice compositions. Orrin Evans “Meant to Shine” Palmetto cd Quote

Here it is Thank you, @jazzcorner. Very interesting stuff. Allison's voice comes through in this interview just as clearly as it does in his songs; for example: "We're all dumb, but some of us are dumber than others." Quote

jazzbo Posted January 28, 2024 Report Posted January 28, 2024 Antonio Carlos Jobim and Banda Nova “Familia” Som Livre cd (also issued as “Amazonas”) Almost 20 years after the masterwork “Matita Pere” Tom and his band of friends and family revisit much of the material in condensed new arrangements. The production and mix by Jacques Morelenbaum are part of the unique, dense sound this one has, and the four lovely singers in the chorus bring an extra alluring texture. A good one indeed for a rainy Sunday morning. Quote
