Theo Hill “Reality Check” Posi-Tone cd

Theo Hill - piano; Rhodes; synthesizer
Joel Ross - vibraphone
Rashaan Carter - bass; electric bass
Mark Whitfield Jr. - drums

This one has grown on me. I like it more now than I did when I bought it a few years ago. Joel Ross was the attraction, and he contributes strongly.

Charlie Parker - Bird/The Savoy Recordings (Master Takes)

charlie_parker_birdthesavoyrecordingsmastertakes-449014.webp.1cd6d0d119adadc9b38630b94ec8d4a8.webp

This was my very very first Charlie Parker album, a double LP. I didn´t know nothing about Parker until I heard that "Parkeriana" on a Mingus Album featuring Dolphy. I thought, if Parker is so great, he must be the next artist I have to get to know.
I love this album still, because it does not have all those alternative tracks, just the masters..... so you can just spin it and hear all the tunes.....

It´s interesting that on one side of the album is also a quintet that has Bud Powell playing but I remember that at that time I didn´t notice the piano solos and maybe Bud is also quite subdued and weakly recorded on that.
I remember in my first "Parker-Year" I had four Parker albums: This Savoy Mastertakes, than a brown LP called "Jazz Tracks" that has the Carnegie Hall Concert and some of the Dial Session", then two live LPs from CBS: "One Night at Birdland" (where I first heard Bud Powell and never have heard better Bud), and a similar album "Summit Meeting at Birdland".

What an exciting release! A great trio in great sound (for a 1953 club recording).

Zoh Amba- Bhakti

Has its moments but possibly not "the greatest free jazz album of 21st century" as per the introduction to her sets at Café Oto last night

Ha! I wondered at that too.

Tim Berne - alto & baritone saxophones
Guillermo E. Brown - drums
Roy Campbell - trumpet
Daniel Carter - flute, alto, & tenor saxophones
Ed Coxon - violins
Mat Maneri - acoustic & electric viola
Evan Parker - soprano saxophone
William Parker - double bass
Matthew Shipp - piano
George Trebar - acoustic & electric double bass
John Coxon & Ashley Wales - all other instruments

That made a big splash at the time
