Rabshakeh Posted August 14, 2024 Report Posted August 14, 2024 Roscoe Mitchell and Nicole Mitchell's Black Earth Ensemble - Three Compositions: Live at Sant'Anna Arresi Nice idea and I like the Black Earth Ensemble, but I don't think the group is really right for the compositions. Quote

If it weren’t for the anchor of the amazing Ronnie Boykins bass playing . . . i probably would not listen to this. The original cd issue has been in deep storage a long time so I can’t do a comparison but the sound of this mastering is excellent. Cosmic Myth Records cd This. It's quite good for drifting off towards Alpha State, as much as circumstances allow. Quote

A guy I know got in contact with the estate of the bass player that recorded that album, and he said his father recorded a bunch of gigs that this great quartet recorded, and plans to release all of them! I can honestly say that this has been the first jazz guitar recording that brought a big smile to my face throughout its entirety. This was the man that Bird would listen closely to every night JS would be his accompanying act at Birdland, instead of going out and scoring. Edited August 15, 2024 by sgcim Quote
