It's a great date, but like I said, unissued here until 1992, and not well known domestically. Maybe the allegedly surreptitious nature of the original recording held it back here? But internationally it's had a good run. Well worth scoping out and imo the best representation of that edition of the Messengers on record Make mine Chico!!! Quote

Rabshakeh Posted May 10 Report Posted May 10 Derek And The Ruins (Derek Bailey, Masuda Ryuichi and Yoshida Tatsuya) – Saisoro A long time since I revisited this one (thanks to Tzadik now being on streaming services). Great record. One of Bailey's most successful of the later pairings. Quote
jazzbo Posted May 10 Report Posted May 10 A cool still morning. Going to be a beautiful day! Starting off with Lauren Henderson “Sombras” Brontosaurus Music cd This is the first I’ve heard Ms Henderson, bought because Joel Ross is part of the supporting quartet. Wow, what a graceful phrasing and voice that draws one in. Such a pity her other albums are so expensive to collect! And now Donna Fuller (with Pete Rugolo and his Orchestra) “My Foolish Heart” Liberty TOCJ Japan Super Bit Jazz Classic lp facsimile cd From 1957. Nice sounding disc! Quote
Rabshakeh Posted May 10 Report Posted May 10 Enrico Rava Quintet – Tribe This one is a really great record. Rava really worked magic on ECM. Quote
jazzbo Posted May 10 Report Posted May 10 Groovin’ now with Dr. Lonnie Smith, “Too Damn Hot!” Palmetto Records cd Drums – Fukushi Tainaka or Gregory Hutchinson Guitar – Peter Bernstein, Rodney Jones Organ – Dr. Lonnie Smith Quote
Kevin Bresnahan Posted May 10 Report Posted May 10 I really like that live Jazz Messengers date. I first heard it on that single RCA disc from 1992 but when it came out "complete" on 2 CDs, I had to get that too. They were on fire that night. Quote

New to me too but it sounds very good on initial acquaintance, thank you for posting it. I buy downloads, I know you don't, so will be buying this one for $7 Quote
jazzbo Posted May 10 Report Posted May 10 Great! This cd was cheap compared to what I see of her others. . . and I'm not sure there are downloads. If there are that's a good way to go. Quote
