It's a solid date.  However, I'd recommend Byard's first collaboration with Michael Marcus, This Happening (1997), over Involution.  The earlier album is a piano-sax duo, and they seem less constrained on that session. 

I kept hoping that they'd let loose a bit more on Involution.  But they rarely did, and I find it strangely sedate.
