The music must be great and it has a fantastic rhythm section. But I heard it was almost impossible to make it happen, because away from music they almost were fighting, I mean two live long junkies with bad temper, and though Chet was playing better than ever since his comeback and mostly over here in Europe, Stan Getz was the bigger name... I’ve only seen videos of these concerts that included backstage interviews from Getz. He seemed perturbed bc in a sense it was like he was getting upstaged by Baker in more ways than one. Chet’s playing here is certainly enjoyable. Quote

jazzbo Posted August 11, 2022 Report Posted August 11, 2022 Today I felt like starting off with some Bud Freeman. This one has some really interesting work on clarinet by Peanuts Hucko, who I saw in San Antionio before he passed away. I love this style of jazz. It's hard to feel bad when it's spinning. And Bud had a certain shape to his sound that was both heavy and light at once. That's the best way I can describe it. Bud Freeman "1946" Chronogical Classics cd Quote

jazzbo Posted August 11, 2022 Report Posted August 11, 2022 Disc 1 of 4. This was a great deal, used for 12 dollars. www.dustygroove.com has a new copy for 23 which is still a great deal. Sound isn't perfect, but seems pretty decent on all discs (mono). Ray Charles "Antibes 1961" Quote

Dub Modal Posted August 11, 2022 Report Posted August 11, 2022 Harold Land's Take Aim, but on the Mighty Quinn CD version which looks like this: Maybe a prime candidate for a BN vinyl reissue? Great album proper, even without the live bonus track included on this CD. The track Reflections is my favorite here. Quote
