jazzbo Posted July 9 Report Posted July 9 480×477 73.2 KB “Blows Against the Empire” RCA/Legacy cd I wish Mobile Fidelity would do an SACD of this. . . none of the cd versions I have heard really match the sound and feel of the OG LP I have, which is pretty noisey I’m afraid. Still remember my fascination with this music in the 'Seventies. Quote
jazzbo Posted July 9 Report Posted July 9 “Ellington Jazz Party in Stereo” Columbia CSP stereo LP Well, I picked up a well-priced stereo copy of this album, which I just have in an original pressing in Mono; the stereo LP I have is one of those digitally remastered “CBS Jazz Masterpieces” versions. This one is a 'seventies “Collector’s Series Pressing” releases so not a 'fifties original BUT it sounds really good and is very clean. Sounds better than the Jazz Masterpieces pressing. I LOVE THIS MUSIC! Quote

jazzbo Posted July 10 Report Posted July 10 So nice to finally have an SACD version of this release crucial to my listening world. John Coltrane “Crescent” Japan Universal SHM-SACD Sound is excellent; my now favorite digital version. Quote
jazzbo Posted July 10 Report Posted July 10 (edited) I’m listening to session takes of “American Beauty” via the Grateful Dead “Angel’s Share” release. The fidelity of the sound is really amazing, especially the vocal tracks, which are generally more recessed than this in releases. However. . . the singing is often cringeworthy. . . . Holy Ghost Posted July 11 Report Posted July 11 Wowwww! Everything, everybody said here about this record is on par. Picked up the Japenese mini-lp Freedom edition at Reckless Records when I was in Chicago a couple of weeks ago. Sounds great on my system. Quote

Peter Friedman Posted July 11 Report Posted July 11 I don't believe I have heard any better Eddie Lockjaw Davis than on this album!!!!! It is good to hear Snooky Young in one of his few small group settings.. This Basie small group session provides an excellent example of what it means to "SWING". Quote
