jazzbo Posted February 6 Report Posted February 6 Back from a mediocre breakfast (food wise, good company–Lucy’s sister and her husband, we meet weekly). Playing Paul Desmond “Glad to be Unhappy” RCA/Legacy cd Sounds excellent today. Quote

T.D. Posted February 7 Report Posted February 7 Shoji Aketagawa (with Hiroshi Hatsuyama), Nojiri No Tasogare This is weird but pretty cool and in the upper tier of Aketagawa recordings IMO, although his trademark vocalizing is loud and likely to turn some listeners off. Quote
dougcrates Posted February 7 Report Posted February 7 (edited) Original LP. Needs to be reissued. A masterpiece. Original LP Edited February 7 by dougcrates Quote
jazzbo Posted February 7 Report Posted February 7 An early start to the day, and looking out on the new snow. Decided to play this new arrival. I have this music in several formats, the Mosaic LP version, a newer (and crisper) cd version, and this earlier cd version that sounds a lot like a straight unfutzed with LP transfer. The music is truly “timeless” if there ever were timeless jazz. Lester Young leading great outfits and the joy and skill shine forth. It’s been too longe since I’ve listened to these tracks! “Giants of the Tenor Sax: Lester “Prez” Young & Friends” Commodore cd IMG300×297 11.2 KB The awesome Kansas City Six and Kansas City Five recordings. Recorded on September 27, 1938 in New York or March 18, 1938 in New York Quote
