David Ayers
I happened to buy that issue. Next up: Hank Mobley? I'm still trying to figure out why I ever buy this magazine if it is all available online...
paul secor
Seemed like a piece of total fluff to me.
JSngry
I've heard some of the cassettes. Not going to change anybody's mind, but I found the music to have integrity within itself, and also to be surprisingly accessible.
T.D.
Mosaic's weekly "Jazz Gazette" e-mail today had a link to a JazzTimes item on this release: https://jazztimes.com/news/luaka-bop-release-new-alice-coltrane-compilation-may-5/ I'll wait to hear some clips, though I admit not owning any of her Impulse recordings (which I'd be inclined to look to first). 7/4
Impulse recordings essential, WB at least interesting.
JSngry
The cassettes (and, as I understand it for some items, CDs) were sold here: http://www.innerpath.com/swamini-turiyasangitananda-alice-coltrane/ And ok, pre-order now if you like: https://alicecoltrane.bandcamp.com/

rostasi
Been listening to one released tune from this for the past month and the quality is much better than the cassettes. There's also extra music that I believe isn't on those cassettes. It has it's own beauty I think.
JSngry
Her singing on these is surprisingly (or maybe not) "churchy", in the African-American way, many of the songs are as well. People expecting drone-y micro-tonal melismatic trance music might find themselves very surprised, one way or the other.
jazzbo
Yes, what I have of this from cassette is very interesting. I'm in, I've preordered the CD.

I believe you can only view a limited number of articles per month before the paywall kicks in. I'm not sure of all the details as I'm a subscriber, but I've hit the paywall before when my preferred mobile Twitter client failed to properly pass my credentials from a previous login through to the New Yorker's site. It's certainly better than Amanda Petrusich's piece on Sonny Rollins in the same magazine.
jazzbo
Just arrived and is spinning now. Beautiful booklet. Sound is considerably better than I expected!
