papsrus Posted November 21, 2010 Report Posted November 21, 2010 (edited) One of those 'one thing led to another' purchases, ordered earlier tonight: Sam Charters' Washboard Jazz Band -- "New Orleans Jazz" I know the artist who did the cover, Earl Linderman. I own 2 of his paintings. Bought the new Roscoe Mitchell & Michael Formanek ECM CDs. Very cool. I love the cover art. Nice album, too! Ordered over the past couple of weeks or so: 1. Fletcher Henderson -- Tidal Wave 2. Freddie Keppard -- 1923 - 1926 3. Clarence Williams -- vol. 1 1923 - 1928 4. King Oliver -- Sugar Foot Stomp 5. Johnny Dodds -- Definitive Dodds 1926 - 1927 6. John Kirby -- Complete Associated Transcriptions Vol. 1 12. John Kirby -- Biggest Little Band in the Land 13. Pioneer Recording Bands 1917-1920 - Various Artists (have yet to get a confirm on this last one from deep discount dot com, and I've struck out before trying to snag it, so I'm not holding my breath. And from Jazz Crusade, some Captain John Handy plus an Omer Simeon: 14. Capt. John Handy -- All Aboard Vol. 1 15. Capt. John Handy TV Airshots, 1968 - 1970 16. Buying at random on the internet is way too hard, I really love the "luck of the draw" nature of the used section. Yeah, me too. I mean the Cleveland area has some "hotspots" but overall it can be pretty drab here (I find the Pittsburgh and Chicago areas to be the best). So today I head over to the Coventry area where there are two stores: the Record Revolution and the Exchange. RR is essentially doing away with all their cd's and focusing on records only, so they've marked all their cd's down to 50 cents a piece! Nothing really exciting there, but they did have a sealed copy of Ernie Krivda Plays Ernie Krivda on CIMP, which I bought for the tidy sum of 54 cents. Unbelievable deal, but a sad reminder of the demise of cd's too. The exchange had a copy of Horace Silver Quintet's Silver's Blue for $7, which I bought in a split-second. Quote

AmirBagachelles Posted December 2, 2010 Report Posted December 2, 2010 Paying up for digital music is THE WORST, however, for a brilliant, independent maverick, it seems appropriate. I went for Henry Kaiser's "It's A Wonderful Life" ($5.99 emusic). Never on CD, and a great headphone experience anyway. Highly recommended. Quote
