Totally ridiculous. Edited October 17, 2020 by sidewinder Quote
mjazzg Posted October 17, 2020 Report Posted October 17, 2020 Yeah, they're jokers really. Take the top Discogs price and add %%. Website is a very small fraction of their stock. Successfully riding the 'vinyls' wave and fleecing the Hackney hipsters 😃 Quote
sidewinder Posted October 17, 2020 Report Posted October 17, 2020 Thought so..... a fool and his/her money etc. etc. Quote

Yo Yo have tweeted some nice stock but their prices hurt Alan's in East Finchley and then The Little Record Shop in Hornsey. Definitely a different experience to the Hackney Hypsters. The difference in price is pretty remarkable. The Hornsey one, which is where I got the Braxton, I'd recommend at the moment. Alan's has a lot of new jazz in, mostly in the Soul Jazz or smoother end of the market. Lots of Jack McDuff etc. Only about a quarter had made it to the shelves though so perhaps worth checking in. I find Yo Yo a bit of a mix. I think that they overprice what they think they'll sell. The stuff that doesn't make it to the website is sometumes more moderate. Quote
sidewinder Posted October 17, 2020 Report Posted October 17, 2020 Noticed that Yo-Yo/Hackney Hypsters have a Michael Garrick ‘Heart is a Lotus’ on their site but at £400 it is stratospheric, even for this rare LP and condition is far from perfect. Quote

My local, less than a mile away, but I don't go nearly enough as I always end up spending so much. I like the no internet approach and the eccentric opening hours. The selection is usually interesting at the very least and prices not too mad either. Maybe I'll go tomorrow... I've never been to Alan's which is daft really. There's a couple in Palmer's Green too 36 minutes ago, Rabshakeh said: Quote

There's a couple in Palmer's Green too Alan's is fun. It is an old fashioned record shop experience and the man himself is very nice and chatty, which is a change. Not an easy trip if you're based in Hornsey though. Are the Palmer's Green ones RDA and Merlin? Quote

Are the Palmer's Green ones RDA and Merlin? Yes, those two. Merlin makes me smile, piles of stock, apparent disorder and no prices on some. In Wood Green so Alan's is a bit awkward but I should make the effort, couple of buses probably. Quote

Justin V Posted November 4, 2020 Report Posted November 4, 2020 (edited) My most recent buys: Besides having the three stray tracks from the session that makes up the second volume, the five tracks with Philly Joe are fantastic. I've realized that I need all of Hope's leader dates. I have 6. This has been on my list forever. I like Freeman's session on the Capitol Mosaic, so this should be good. Another one that has long been on my list. I have no Lasha leader dates. I thought of him when listening to Hubert Laqs last night. Dusty Groove was selling a new copy of their CD reissue for $6.99, so carpe diem. I ordered a signed copy of the Jamal CD/DVD from his site. I saw this edition of his band twice around the time of his subsequent release, Saturday Morning, so this will be a pleasant reminder. Edited November 4, 2020 by Justin V Quote

Rabshakeh Posted November 4, 2020 Report Posted November 4, 2020 A last pre-lockdown treat: A copy of the LP reissue of Horace Tapscott's The Call and the book Free Jazz In Japan: A Personal History by Teruto Soejima, from Cafe OTO's new books wall. Quote
