Rabshakeh Posted May 28, 2022 Report Posted May 28, 2022 (edited) Globe Unity Orchestra And Guests – Pearls (FMP, 1977) Brought from Atlantis records in Hackney. The owner claims it came from Evan Parker's collection and that he buys from him occasionally. Had a nice chat. Edited May 28, 2022 by Rabshakeh Quote

Owner is John Coxon from Spring Heel Jack and Treader so I think those claims are very likely true. I have a couple of ex-EP's from there too. It's such a mad shop, stock everywhere from so many genres, a bit of a treasure trove Quote

Rabshakeh Posted May 28, 2022 Report Posted May 28, 2022 He mentioned that he "played a bit of guitar". I'm such a fool. Quote

Well, I'm not sure he's been very high profile recently so I think you can give yourself a pass. I used to see him play regularly with SHJ and EP 15-20 years ago Quote
HutchFan Posted June 2, 2022 Report Posted June 2, 2022 A few discs I ordered today. More stuff to fuel my ongoing vocal jazz kick: Mel Torme Sings Fred Astaire (Bethlehem) Helen Merrill - Clear Out of This World (Antilles/Gitanes) Nancy Harrow - Secrets (Soul Note) Quote

Rabshakeh Posted June 3, 2022 Report Posted June 3, 2022 Not a purchase, but I've just found a massive box if my late father in law's records. Some great stuff in there, that will be finding its way to a new home. As someone who grew up with no music in the house I can't really imagine what it would have been like to have been surrounded by it. Quote
Kevin Bresnahan Posted June 3, 2022 Report Posted June 3, 2022 Riki - Gold (Dais). During one of Bandcamp's sales, I liked the samples of this synth-pop singer so I picked up the vinyl. Reminds me a bit of an 80's rock band. Quote

Rabshakeh Posted June 4, 2022 Report Posted June 4, 2022 (edited) From Richmix Records in Brixham. First time I'd visited it. The owner, Roger, is a fan of 70s rare groove type jazz and, oddly, collects Mainstream. I'd recommend it to anyone finding himself/herself in South Devon. Edited June 4, 2022 by Rabshakeh Quote
BFrank Posted June 12, 2022 Report Posted June 12, 2022 Picked these up from a small local record store here in SF. Mostly sealed between $3-10. Supposedly from Orrin Keepnews' estate. Quote

HutchFan Posted June 14, 2022 Report Posted June 14, 2022 I hit another Toronto record store yesterday -- Playa de Record on Spadina. Picked up these LPs: French RCA version Quote
HutchFan Posted June 24, 2022 Report Posted June 24, 2022 (edited) After kicking around in a few shops today, I brought home these titles -- all used, all vinyl: 2 LP set The STEREOPHONIC version, oh yes with Harold Vick and Freddie Waits Konitz sans drummer Edited June 24, 2022 by HutchFan Quote
Pim Posted June 25, 2022 Report Posted June 25, 2022 alrrqdy had these on cd. But still wanted these vinyl reissues Quote
Rabshakeh Posted June 26, 2022 Report Posted June 26, 2022 Cy Touff – His Octet & Quintet I cleared out a lot of records today; over thirty. Short sharp and brutal. My four year old son had tears in his eyes thinking that I might sell Jump Up Calypso by Harry Belafonte, but I took pity. Then I took myself to Alan's on the Finchley Road, and bought myself this as a consolation prize. I've been going through a Kamuca phase for a while and this is the first time I've seen a record of his in the wild other than the Shelly Manne live set. Quote
