captainwrong Posted April 10, 2008 Report Posted April 10, 2008 Against my better judgment, I bought three Mosaic Select sets today. Found them used at about the last place in town I'd ever think to look for such a thing. Picked up Randy Weston, Duke Person ($35/each) and Cooper/Shank ($19). It wasn't a huge savings, but they had a buy five get one deal and the wife had some DVDs she wanted, so it evened out. I don't even know if the Cooper and Shank set is my bag, but for $19, what the shit? Quote
paul secor Posted April 11, 2008 Report Posted April 11, 2008 Yesterday, the mail carrier brought: Von Freeman Quartet: Lester Leaps In (Steeplechase) and Artur Schnabel Trio & Duo - Brahms: Chamber Music with Szigeti & Fournier (Arbiter) Quote

mikelz777 Posted April 16, 2008 Report Posted April 16, 2008 Thelonious Monk - Live At The It Club I'm giving some Monk a try after intentionally passing him by for as long as I've been into jazz. I may just be starting to get him. I found this one new/sealed/delivered for $7.99 so I couldn't pass it up. This comes along with some other new Monks I've been picking up on the cheap. Brilliant Corners ($5.00), Genius of Modern Jazz vol. 1 and the Thelonious Monk Quartet with John Coltrane at Carnegie Hall from BMG for $2.79 each. Wayne Shorter - Second Genesis This fills a gap in my early Shorter CDs. Quote
Shannon Dickey Posted April 16, 2008 Report Posted April 16, 2008 Joy of joy's!! In the discount rack, for .99 cents, in mint condition: Irma Victoria and the Hatebox Experience "Phantasmagoria--The second coming" Mind and Media label. astounding Danish female "singer". Quite disturbing and fresh. I have several other CDs by her, but only had a tape, provided to me by Boyd Rice, of this fab CD. Check her out! Mos def not for everybody. She died in the early 2000's. UNIQUE!!! Quote
