A couple of nice buys on Ebay:

Jelly Roll Morton: 1926-1930

I've had my eye on this set for quite a while so I took a chance on one and got a nice deal on it.

Cecilia Coleman - Words Of Wisdom

A very nice pianist way under the radar. Check her out on CD Baby.

Was a little out of control the last couple of days. I ordered all the May 13 Conns except for the Art Farmer one.

Then yesterday made a quick stop at Dusty Groove and picked up Nigeria Rock Special (so I have the whole set), Afrodite by Dino Piana and Oscar Valdambrini, a 2 CD set which collects 4 of Baden Powell's MPS albums, and just for fun Absolute Funk v. 5.

EXCELLENT day at my local used cd shop (the one where I nabbed a boatload of VEE's earlier this year):

Curtis Amy/Dupree Bolton-Katanga-PJ/WCC...for $5!!! and its mint, not a cutout with the obi!

John Carter-Fields-Grammavision...for $2.50!!!

Gerry Mulligan Songbook-PJ...for $2.50!!!

I yelled out 'holy crap!' in the store when I saw the Amy, and the clerk behind me was like, 'I don't get what's so great about that.'

Lol....yeah I did something similar when I saw a rare Curtis Counce album at a store. The clerk was like "Are you okay?" I looked at him and said in a very calm voice "Yes, I believe I am."

I have all his Prestiges so I'm adding to my Jackie McLean collection by picking up some of his Blue Notes. Plus, these happened to be going for only $6.59 at Tower and four of them would qualify for free shipping. I'm hoping these will cap off my buying spree. Household finances are tightening to the point of having to cut out several luxuries and CD-buying is one of them.

Jackie McLean - A Fickle Sonance, Capuchin Swing, New Soil and Bluesnik.

Freddie Hubbard: Sky Dive; First Light; Straight Life. Straight Life was a disappointment on my first playing of it. First Light is lyrical and well worth the money-it merits a second listen today. Sky Dive is up next.

Charles Mingus: Let My Children Hear Music. Classic Mingus.

VSOP: The Quintet. A classic Miles rhythm section with Freddie Hubbard in the trumpet slot. I'm a big fan of this group. It still sounds as great as it did when first released.

Clifford Brown/Max Roach. The Blues Walk, Joy Spring. Great bop, great Clifford.

The Lester Young Mosaic Box. I've only listened to Disc 1 so far and the set is up to Mosaic's high standards-excellent audio quality and a great booklet! Immortal music.

I was in Chicago recently, made the obligatory stop at Jazz Record Mart. The prices may be a little high, but the atmosphere is priceless (while I was shopping I heard one worker tell another that "Cuscuna just called, he wants you to call back'). Jimmy Smith's Live at the Baby Grand was playing while I was shopping, sounded realy good so I picked that up. I also picked up Warne Marsh, All Music. And the magazine Stop Smiling. stop smiling mag
