2 CDs from the "Jazz in Paris" series arrived in the mail today from Dusty Groove:

Don Byas - "Laura"; mostly gorgeous ballads (My wife says Don Byas sounds like rich chocolate on these recordings.)

Stan Getz - recorded live in Paris in 1966; backed by Gary Burton, Steve Swallow, and drummer extraordinaire Roy Haynes.

From The Jazz Loft:

Miles Davis - "Live at Montreux" (1969) Great, but really recoded at Antibes.

Horace Tapscott - Vol. 8

The Jazz Loft also mistakenly sent Cecil's "One Too Many Salty Swift". I already have that one and had ordered Horace Tapscott's "The Dark Tree, Volumes 1 & 2" (same label but different pianist). I'll have to straighten that out next year.

Lisa Sokolov - Presence I rarely enjoy jazz vocals, but Downbeat gave this 5 stars, and the downloadable sound snippets give me the impression that this is very creative music.

David Murray - Now Is Another Time Murray does salsa.

Geoff Keezer - Zero One He covers Radiohead and Bjork, and performs his own tune Hibiscus, which was the highlight of the Storms/Nocturns trio recording.

A '97 Red Record release of Victor Lewis' titled Three Way Conversations. It's a piano-less trio release featuring Victor & Ed Howard together with three horns - Steve Wilson, Terell Stafford and Seamus Blake. I bought it from Victor himself at a cd release party tonight. All of the tunes are written by V.L. Very curious about this, will give it a spin when I get up this morning.
