Yesterday bought Donaldson's Lou Takes Off. Figured with Donald Byrd, Curtis Fuller, and Sonny Clark it probably wasn't chopped liver. But it's the most convincing leader date I've heard by Donaldson, who up til now I've pegged as someone who sounded better as a sideman.

Been hunting several Bud Freeman discs today, in order to complete several gaps (Freeman is a "get everything" man for me!):

Freeman, Bud Something to remember you by 1962 cd Black Lion

Freeman, Bud With Alex Welsh and His Band 1966 cd Lake Records

Freeman, Bud Superbud 1974 cd 77/Jazzology

Freeman, Bud The Man: Live in Dublin, 1976 1976 cd Nagel Heyer

Freeman, Bud The dolphin has a message 1980 cd JSP

Freeman, Bud California Session 1982 cd Jazzology

And also got

Volume 1 - 1940-1944-The Alternative Takes Hall, Edmond Neatwork

Flyin' high 1949-1959 Hall, Edmond IAJRC

P.S. With Love Chittison, Herman IAJRC

This is the third time in recent weeks I've ordered a 'new' disc from amazon marketplace sellers that were listed incorrectly. In the case of the Artie Shaw disc above, which arrived today, and Lester Young's Complete Keynote, I received discs issued by the Jazz Heritage label with black and white cover art instead of by the label described in the listing. Question: Is anyone familiar with Jazz Heritage? The covers make me suspicious that they may be CDRs or some other kind of copies, but I just don't know.

Just pushed the button on these three:

Buddy Tate -- "The Texas Twister"

Lucky Thompson -- "Jazz in Paris: Modern Jazz Group"

Flip Phillips -- "Flippin' the Blues Vol. 2 1949-1951"
