Kevin, I have no idea what the market is any more.  From what I can see on ebay it is feast or famine, and I know I have picked up a lot of boxes recently at unusually affordable rates.

I have the Clifford Jordan but it's going for stupid money on discogs.com, which doesn't mean it's selling for stupid money on discogs.  I literally have no idea what to ask for it.

JSngry, I am doing mostly vinyl, but specific artists and albums.  Doing cds of course where I can't do vinyl.  Enjoy both mediums, and I stream from my hard drive as well.

Kevin, I'll have to thikn about the Clifford Jordan.  Hemming and hawing over how much do I really want to hear all his material from that period.

 

I do need to get the Lee Morgan Complete Live at the Lighthouse...

The problem with these stats on discogs is that even if that $125 sale was a partial box, it goes in as a "sale". I'm pretty sure this is what depressed the value of the Buck Clayton Mosaic box. Quite a few partial sets sold over a long period, which not only drove down the Low price but also the Median. Pretty soon, that box that used to regularly sell for over $300 now sells for under $100. Discogs has it's pluses & minuses.

But, it's a generalized look. Have there been lots of partial boxes selling?
The price you choose should be based on circumstances.
Are you selling to a friend? An acquaintance?
How badly do you need to get rid of it, etc.

So I have picked up a number of Modaic vinyl and cd sets for well less than I remembered when I was actively collecting back in the 2000s.

Everything depends on the artist.  Pre war music, or big band or dixieland stuff goes for peanuts.  Certain hard bop or modern jazz goes for retail or well above.

I just picked up the Lee Morgan Lighthouse set on vinyl for about retail on discogs.  Missed out on all that kind of stuff over the past decade.

Just today paid ¢58 for the Live Chet/Freeman LP set which even with international shipping still comes out as affordable.

In general, with a few notable exceptions (e.g. Threadgill), the prices for Mosaic CD sets have collapsed (don't follow the LP market, might be a different story there). Last year I picked up (the great) Clayton set in pristine condition for less than €10 / CD shipped at Discogs (after a bit of negotiation) - and I see there are even better offers now: https://www.discogs.com/release/7114702-Buck-Clayton-The-Complete-CBS-Buck-Clayton-Jam-Sessions . I somehow sold a few of my neglected Mosaics (Woody Shaw Columbia, Armstrong live) at Discogs at OK (not exorbitant) prices a few years back - I see they sell quite a bit lower now.

I think those prices are from a discogs seller I noticed this week. Was reading the thread and did some research. I considered posting a link to his offerings, but the numbers were kind of double-edged so I passed. 😶

The Turrentine and JJ Mosaics have never traded strongly AFAICT. I've always considered $75 the default price for Turrentine and I'm not surprised to see JJ offered at the same approximate level. I bought JJ (which is very good) at a cheapish price, but forget the number.

I’m wondering why you were looking for the Byas when it’s still available, unless you were looking for a deal.
