mikeweil Posted Sunday at 01:59 PM Report Posted Sunday at 01:59 PM (edited) This one hits me hard. Many years ago he played in Frankfurt with his Band. I went there with a longtime friend who brought Brazilian percussionist Gilson de Assis who stayed with him at the time. After the gig they talked the whole Band into going to a local Club where another Brazlian, pianist Izio Gross, led the house trio. His bassist and drummer of retirement age looked so frail you were afraid they would collapse any minute. Hermeto's bassist and drummer conquered the stage, and we were four percussionists cooking behind some wild four hand piano on some old time Brazilian standards. Afterwards we talked a bit, and Hermeto just said "Thanks for loving music." One of the loveliest human beings I ever met. An amazing creative genius. R.I.P and many thanks for the inspiration. Teasing the Korean Posted Sunday at 04:46 PM Report Posted Sunday at 04:46 PM I'm a big fan of the Brazilian Octopus album, which has that international MPs fondue party sound that I can't resist. RIP. Quote

mikeweil Posted Wednesday at 01:12 PM Report Posted Wednesday at 01:12 PM I have never seen so many tributes, obituaries etc. on facebook - he really was universally loved and respected. Quote
HWright Posted 8 hours ago Report Posted 8 hours ago My favorite quote from the NYT obituary: “Bath toys, teapots, tuned bottles of water, bicycle pumps, chairs, dolls, anvils and even his own beard were among the items he employed. While recording the album “Slaves Mass” for Warner Bros. Records in 1976, he brought a pair of live pigs into the studio and “played” them as if they were bagpipes, incorporating their squeals into the mix.” Quote
