ghost of miles Posted Friday at 07:55 PM Posted Friday at 07:55 PM Listening to a newly-acquired copy of the BGO double CD that brings together three of Tom Scott’s mid-1970s albums, including the two with L.A. Express. I think I have about 15-20 of these BGO twofers (threefers?), and the annotations and sound are consistently good. What are some of your faves from this label, jazz or otherwise? Quote
Pim Posted Saturday at 05:28 AM Posted Saturday at 05:28 AM (edited) Just playing thisexcellent set. Only thing I dislike is the cheap looking artwork which gives you the impression you’re buying one of those sucky PD label compilation. But these are excellent Edited Saturday at 05:47 AM by Pim Quote

I also like their Freddie Hubbard - the mid 70s Columbia albums - while not great, they are worth. listen and the packaging/price is right. Edited Saturday at 10:10 AM by Eric Quote
felser Posted Saturday at 01:42 PM Posted Saturday at 01:42 PM Yeah, they did a nice job repackaging some CBS/CTI titles, such as Blythe, Hubbard, Farrell, Turrentine, Laws into very efficient sets with good sound (their mastering tends to be excellent). They also have a good package of John Surman's first three albums. Quote
mhatta Posted yesterday at 08:46 AM Posted yesterday at 08:46 AM My personal favorite BGO reissue. Quote
Roger Farbey Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago (edited) BGO did a true public service when they reissued all the Vertigo label Nucleus albums and the EMI Columbia label Rendell Carr Quintet albums. But they also re-issued albums by other major British players such as Graham Collier, Mike Gibbs, John McLaughlin, John Surman, Mike Westbrook and Kenny Wheeler / John Dankworth. An invaluable label.
