  1. Just found his facebook and youtube pages. Solid modern bop.
  2. R.I.P. Never heard any music that he played on, but I found out that he was drumming in Pony Poindexter's quartet immediately before the latter's move to Europe and was supposed to record with him, which never took place. Are there any recordings with him out there?
  3. This afternoon, five different recordings of Debussy's L'après-midi d'un faune:
  4. Thanks for linking, nice read. Watkins deserves it. I always liked him much more than Chambers, great tone!
  5. My experience is based on German language forums, perhaps the general attitude is different in English language forums. Would you post links to these? Yes, it is a wide and diverse area of music, I can relate to that. Without my decades of listening and learning I would be lost.
  6. Here's another video appetizer, made on the occasion of the presentation of a newly acquired copy of a Zell harpsichord for the Frankfurt music academy. All the players are or have been students there, it's all German music mostly before Bach, a very nice overview. One of the players, Alexander von Heissen (from 29:50), recently won a Bach competition and is one of the rising stars on the scene, but my favorite is Ortrun Sommerweiß, who plays a Suite attributed to Jan Adam Reincken with amazing natural self- confidence (starting at 15:00) - I look forward to hear her playing live again in two months. The comments are all in German, with plenty insights from the builder of the instrument, but the music alone makes it worthwhile and gives testimony to the high level we have at this school.
  7. Over the last few days: all excellent stuff ... This afternoon I topped it with Korneel Bernolet's recording of Balbastre's Premier Livre: I finally gave in and ordered a copy, even though I already have at least half a dozen recordings of this collection, but I don't regret it, it's one of the top three, some pieces he plays better than everybody else. And top sound on a copy of a Hemsch harpsichord. The original is kept in a Boston museum, but it is rarely copied due to its complex construction, which allows many colours other harpsichords do not have, and Bernolet makes great use of them.
  8. 😅 ..... but I rather drink my weekend bottles to other music. Started the wekend early with a Grillo:
  9. forgot to post the weekend bottle, downing the last drops right now - this one needs to age a liitle more. La Cloutade D'Ambre 2022 CORBIÈRES, APPELLATION D’ORIGINE PROTÉGÉE
  10. That's a very good album, received it as a gift from an old friend some years ago.
  11. Presto offers the Hep catalog as downloads. They seem to have some still in stock as CDs, I just ordered two missing in my collection. https://www.prestomusic.com/jazz/labels/674--hep-records
  12. Has the Hep Jazz label ceased to exist? Try reaching their web page and tell me what you think - or does anybody know about it? https://www.hepjazz.com/
  13. I second these recommndations. In his younger years, Jacquet seemed a bit competitive to me, especially in jam session contexts, to a lesser degree in his leader dates. From the Verve dates on he seems more relaxed and self-assured and mature to me. I like the Verve sides a lot, but they are hard to get, and never were reissued in satisfying compilations.
