  1. Thanks, I'll have a look for a stream
  2. What's that apart from admirably minimalist cover design?
  3. Fred Frith & Susana Santos Silva - Laying Demons To Rest Anna Webber - Shimmer Wince Henry Threadgill - The Other One
  4. Some very good performances on this recording of a Tippett memorial https://pigrecords.bandcamp.com/album/a-celebration-of-keith-tippett Digital or Blu-ray
  5. Trzaska with Mark Sanders and Olie Brice in the Riverloam Trio, well worth a listen. And the Oles brothers with Theo Jorgensmann also worthwhile
  6. Great BFT, thanks John Looking back at my initial comments I see it was 3, 8, 9 and 12 that really piqued my interest Your recent comment about no.3 made me wonder that it could be Allen Lowe. I'm intrigued to hear more of that album. I have 8 and 12 but obviously don't listen to them enough or closely enough And 9 is just a great discovery Happy New Year!
  7. Two other UK players I should have mentioned earlier are John Pope and Charlotte Keefe. Both releasing worthwhile material. I gave the Michael Foster a quick listen, certainly sounds like it's worth spending time with, thanks Steve Also, interesting list colinmce, at least six names I don't know which are great leads.
  8. OK, with you now. Shame though as I was hoping for some new names. Reid seems to do a lot of sidewoman recordings, the newish Melford and Fujiwara come to mind but I'd definitely like to see her lead some recordings.
  9. I love everything jaimie branch did but really wish they'd left the final one in the can. I can't connect with it. I've enjoyed what I've heard of Zoh Amba. She's coming to Café Oto soonish (twice) so will be interested to hear her live
  10. Which recordings are you thinking of? My Chicago collection which is extensive predates that a fair bit - Adasiewicsz, Mike Reed, Tomeka Reid, Jackson, Roebke, Mazurek, Mazarella, etc etc, so many now in their 40s I guess. I'd love to know of a younger generation who have picked up the baton
  11. Yes, I agree about "the scene". It's almost as if it's waiting for the next localised flowering similar to Portugal 10 years ago, to take it forward again although I also think there might be a bit of in built inevitability about this feeling as I'm not paying nearly as much attention as I used to it so I'm sure things are slipping by me. I seem to be focussing on UK players a bit more almost by default, anything with Musson, Brice, Kraabel. I hear good things about younger UK players but fail to follow up This is well worth a listen but hardly newcomers Armaroli, Minton, Schiaffini, Turner - 'I Dream I Was A European'
  12. I'll jump in uninvited if I may to say I think it's pretty special. Well worth a listen. It hadn't really struck me how important guitarists are to so many Motian recordings, which given how many I have was just obtuse of me, so what initially appeared an unlikely pairing seemed less so as it unfolds. It struck me as being a list that could have featured in any of the last 5-10 years or so, given the artists. I don't know Allemano so shall be having a listen. The Mendoza Hoffs Revels seems everywhere in lists at the moment, not for me but that's my loss. Another recording I'm seeing a lot in EoY lists is the Darius Jones. Gave that a cursory listen and shall definitely be returning for a more focussed one, tough and knotty stuff.
  13. That's a reminder that I have the CD. I should listen to it
  14. I used to have that pressing, textured sleeve iirc?
  15. I remember 'Farewell To Kings' being released and everyone just loving it. I still hold out for '2112' but only because it was my entry point. I bet 'Farewell...' stands up better these days, less interplanetary silliness and capes 😃. The other two I don't know as I'd left Rush behind by then There was what must be an apocryphal story of one of the Brit HM bands, Motorhead or Saxon or similar supporting Rush and when the dry ice was at its most voluminous during the Rush set they crept onstage and placed a pair of fluffy slippers in front of Lee and Lifeson...would love for it to be true Maybe it was true after all https://faroutmagazine.co.uk/rush-song-they-were-mocked-for-performing/ "To fit in with the styles they were singing about, Rush decided to try out different kimonos, thinking that it would work well with their fanbase. While on tour with the hard rock outfit UFO, Geddy Lee would recall getting relentlessly teased for their choice of wardrobe, recalling in Beyond the Lighted Stage, “[UFO] would call me ‘Glee’. I would go out onstage, and there would be a pair of fuzzy white slippers nailed to the stage. And I’d hear, ‘That goes perfect with your robe, Glee" UFO, saw them a few times
  16. Nice haul Pim. Who's the seller? I didn't have any money from relations but still managed to order A 1959 issue of Brubeck's 'Time Out'. Just the cover design alone is worth the entry price but I love the music An original press of Mingus 'Tonight At Noon' because I'm on such a big Mingus trip at the moment and for the same reason Dannie Richmond Quartet - Ode to Mingus which I've really been surprised by and enjoying through streaming this holiday. All from UK sellers so no Brexit-tax issues
  17. Yep, it would make life easier and reduce storage issues. I may try it as a new year resolution (Although the others by that band are very good too...)
  18. A real giant Certainly seems to be gaining traction online that he has died. And I'm sure Mark at Confront would be very sure before confirming. I saw that Oxley, Taylor, Braxton concert too, extraordinary. Also saw him at RFH with Bill Dixon, extraordinary again. Over recent years I've bought a number of releases on Confront and Discus and never been disappointed. Such a long and fruitful career. If I was at home with my LPs 'Ichnos' and '4 Compositions' would be on this evening.
  19. Yes, I'm seeing those too. Someone has update his Wikipedia page with yesterday as day of death. Let's hope it's wrong. A total giant of the music
  20. Thanks Niko. I may have to put an order together
  21. Are we taking beer or LPs? 😄 It makes me want to try the beer at least Just did a search, UK price is £20 for 330ml, is it really that good?
