Yep of the recent OOP sets the Kelly/Chambers was the one I didnt go for , I bought the Morgan/Shorter when I play that I sometimes I regret not buying it but I think all the titles are still in print. I didn't know of Mosaic when the Andrew Hill & Larry Young boxes went OOP but those are the 2 oldies I wish I had but I'm chipping away at them by keeping up with RVG & Conn reissues.

Thanks for the condolences - What a bloody awful season that was! And the relegation not being until the last week made it unbearable. Even though we have been relegated hopeful there be a few more wins & enjoyment next season.

On first listen its a bit more subdued than any Mcphee Ive heard before & a bit patchy. Theres a track for Bill Dixon , which is played in a very similar style to Dixon- that unusual style of trumpet playing. The 2 standout tracks for me were the Ellington tune & the title track both played on alto, & both are excellent. I'll need to listen to it again over the next couple of days & I'll hopefully enjoy a little more now I know what to expect.

Wow what a coincidence - I ordered a used copy from Amazon yesterday, along with Graham Locke's book about Anthony Braxton.

I'm slowly working my way through George E. Lewis' piece & as a relative newby to the music I'm finding it fascinating. I thought I'd try and find a copy 'Gittin' To Know Y'all' by Lester Bowie but its proving to be a bit scarce.

I found the vocals to be hypnotic & I've not heard anything like it before, which is always a good thing.

The Daddy of solo sax discs (for me anyway).

It was recorded in '69 and was issued in the '70 or '71 - not sure. If there was a delay it was caused by label finances, not musical considerations. Anthony recorded this material in his apartment on a "home recorder" and delivered it to Delmark (to fulfill his contractual obligation and get some bread) when he was leaving for Europe. The tapes are/were pretty rough and I took a lot of crap from some poster at JC for the quality of the sound. He said something like "the label cheaped out" on the reissue, but I assure you there were no economic restraints on the project. There are a number of overloads, distortions, etc and we tried Cedar and NoNoise on various sections but I decided not to use them in the end. What you hear is a good representation of what's on the tapes. Fascinating - Thanks Chuck. Had Anthony discussed with Delmark the concept of 'For Alto' before recording it?
