  2. Mosaic Dial set coming soon

I ordered this when the repressing was announced. FYI, my copy has the following errors: Disk 7 plays as Disk 9. Disk 8 plays as Disk 7. Disk 9 plays as Disk 8. I suppose I have the whole set, but I emailed Mosaic anyway to let them know. Other recent purchasers may wish to check this out.

  10. There's some great jazz at

A great find - thanks to the original poster. I d'led five of the Birdland broadcasts, which fit onto 2 CDs. Played them through to glean info and was only partially successful. Perhaps someone can fill in some of the blanks. Here's what I came up with: 1. Introduction/unknown title / Without a Word of Warning / Open House / Dutch Kitchen Bounce Arnett Cobb & His Orchestra: Cobb (ts) with unknown tp, tb, bar, p, b, d Night Flight / To A Wild Rose / Carnegie Horizons / Outro/unknown title George Shearing & His Quintet: Shearing (p) with unknown vib, g, b, d NBC “Stars in Jazz” broadcast, Birdland, NYC, July 3, 1952 24:49 2. Jet Propulsion / Black Velvet / Are You The One? / Flying Home Illinois Jacquet & His Orchestra: Jacquet (ts) with unknown tp, bar, p, b, d Introduction/Lullaby Of Birdland / Azure Te / Nina Never Knew / Without A Song Wild Bill Davis Trio: Davis (org), Floyd Smith (g), Chris Columbus (d) NBC “Stars in Jazz” broadcast, Birdland, NYC, August 1952 25:57 1. 11. Charlie Parker at Birdland, 1950

More information on this session at: Peter Losin's Bird sessionography Note the assertion that the Columbia LP/CDs are off-speed.
  12. Benny Harris in one Bird photo; Roy Haynes in the other. Ken Vail's Bird's Diary says that Bird, Harris, Haynes, Walter Bishop Jr., and Teddy Kotick toured in 1951, including gigs at Lindsay's in Cleveland, where the photos were taken. The photo exhibit says that all the shots were taken in 1952 or 1953; maybe the photographer's recollection is mistaken or the group also worked in 1952.
  13. Looks like someone got hold of Vic Dickenson's photo album/scrapbook and is auctioning the items on Ebay. Some of the photos may present a challenge in identifying the other participants. The items are located in "Entertainment Memorabilia" and most will appear on an Ebay search for "Vic Dickerson" (misspelling appears in most of the listings). I'm not the seller nor am I affiliated with the seller.
  14. http://www.archive.org/details/HollywoodPalace100265 About 40 minutes in. Also, Smith trio number about 35 minutes in. Enjoy.
