  1. Damn, and I thought I was so cool having Donna Summer's 'Hot Stuff' as my ringtone. Seriously though, if I leave it on vibrate I seem to miss at least half of my calls.
  2. I was in the HMV Ginza branch yesterday and I noticed they are now selling a bunch of the Spanish Blue Notes at around $10 each. They seem to be spreading everywhere.
  3. I know what you mean Jim, but when 'The A Train' plays as my wife's phone rings, it always brings a smile to my face.
  4. Happy Birthday Jim. And thanks for maintaining such a great board!
  5. Speaking of beautiful women, how is Jessica Alba in this? I always loved her in Dark Angel (must be the leather).
  6. Could not agree more. There is nobody quite like Chandler and I never tire of reading his prose. Time to dig out 'The Big Sleep' and start again from the beginning.
  7. There was their sampler CD of course. I bought this for around $3 before I had any of their box sets and it piqued my interest. Maybe time for a Mosaic Select sampler.
  8. Have to disagree with this statement. From what I have seen this season Arsenal are every bit as dirty as Man. U. As a Manchester University graduate who once lived a stones throw from Old Trafford during the days when United were pretty crap, I will certainly be cheering for the 'reds' on Saturday. Anyway, as a Luton Town supporter, this has been a great season with the 'hatters' easily winning the first division (albeit, really the third division). Nice to be back in 'The Championship', previously know as the first division (actually the second division). Confusing?
  9. Paypal would be best for me also. Definitely me preferred payment method. Checks aren't used in Japan either, I recently received a check for around $200 and it cost me $50 to cash it.
  10. Three reasons: 1) too expensive for me, 2) I already got some of these dates and 3) I want to collect as many of the K2 remasters. I compared a couple with the regular CD's and I heard a big difference. I dont think the box was remastered like the K2. I have the Japanese version of the box set which is K2 remastered. Wow!! I did not that exist! I am going to check that out, but I know its going to be expen$ive. Probably. I was fortunate enough to pick mine up, used but mint, for less than $60.

    Gianni Basso

Jim, I really enjoy his playing on Joe Lee Wilson's 'Ballads for Trane'. I picked up this CD last year as it was on sale for a mere $5 and it quickly became a favourite. If you like good vocal jazz then I cannot recommend this highly enough. I had never heard Joe Lee Wilson before and was very impressed. Basso's tenor sax playing is a bonus. It was released last year on the Italian Philology label.
  13. No bonus/alt tracks, at least on those that I have seen.
  14. Personally, I find it more enjoyable when they are still alive.
  15. No accounting for taste I guess, but I love "Angie". Saw the Stones a few years ago at the Tokyo Dome and they remain a terrific live act. Don't know where Mick gets his energy from.
  16. I would just like to add that the booklet accompanying the Mosaic set is particularly wonderful, even by Mosaic standards.

    Dave Burrell

Late, thanks for posting the interview. I really enjoy his playing on a CD I recently bought, David Murray's 'Ballads'. And Jazz Kat, thanks for your thoughtful contributions.
  18. Just sent my contribution from Japan by PayPal. Good luck with the recording.
  19. 85. I would be delighted to make it to that age.
  20. Yes, but MY GOD, MAN- the jazz record shopping there!! :rsmile: Very true.
  21. Nobody. Kind of lonely over here in Tokyo.
  22. That was quick. How did he manage to get himself banned within a couple of days? I guess his reputation preceeded him.
  23. Some people only post when they have something to say. Strange concept I know. So what is the definition of having something to say? Are we only allowed to post a message that adds to jazz scholarship in general? I used to think this was a place where we could just shoot the breeze. To tell the truth, all these comments on junk posts, etc... have taken a lot of the fun out of this place for me. I no longer post in reply. I used to do so because I know how much it stinks to post something cool and feel like it was ignored. I know that "stupid questions" thread was annoying to many, but to those participating, it was a lot of fun. Maybe this place has been sour at times because the good-natured fun has been discouraged around here. I guess I better go write a thesis so I can post something worthwhile here. I'd hate to see an Organissimo forums get together. Would we just stand around and only utter profundities, or would we just be cool and talk about the weather or our kids, etc... These are the kinds of things that build goodwill towards each other. I don't mean to be offensive, but I really hate this attitude. I live with enough rules in my real life. Maybe we could have a thread or section of the forum for those of us who (as some believe here) are junk posters. That way, the intellectuals won't have to deal with those of us who are beneath them. I'm off to work on my next post. It will be about the morning of April 14, 1965 and what type of toothpaste Lee Morgan used. Most biographers believe it was Crest, but I have an alternate theory. There seems to have been a shift in his sound and I attribute it to a different toothpaste. You know how a fresh mouth makes you feel... Jeff, I think you are reading way too much into my initial post. Tough day?
  24. Scottb, I feel your pain and smell the same shit! Up to now I have managed to mentally obstruct the few obsessive posters but lately there has been a couple of uninteresting and largely ignorant posters who have staged tsunamis of their own. Never thought I would be using an ignore button on this Board but the need grows more obvious each day! Brownie, I could not agree more. Just take a deep breath, don't let them bother you and keep making your valuable contributions.
