  1. I splurged and got the new re-pressing of the Thelonious Monk “Tenor” albums 7 LP box set from Analogue Productions. I had sold a few things, and bought it on impulse. I didn’t have any audiophile versions of these albums and had not listened to them (in the Complete Riverside Recordings cd box set) for some time. . . maybe I should not have, but there you go. Listening to the first LP, “Brilliant Corners,” which is here in the mono mix. Sounds great with my current phono set up. Mastering by Kevin Gray and the pressing are excellent. I broke my rule about spending money on new LP reissues, but I always wanted this when it was first released on either LP or cd and couldn’t afford it then. . . I sortof can now. 800×786 85.2 KB
  2. Another cold morning. Starting off with some collective heat. SF JAZZ COLLECTIVE — THE MUSIC OF JOE HENDERSON AND ORIGINAL COMPOSITIONS disc 1
  3. Good stuff. This Lester and Lee stuff is also on Masters of Jazz (Media 7) Lester Young Vol. 2 (1939-1942) which is surprisingly cheaper to get than I would have thought.
  4. "Loki" was quite good, and "Legion" and "Doom Patrol" (not Marvel) are among my favorite TV shows ever. I stopped watching Marvel Movies though around the second Avengers. Just not my style.
  5. Like Jim I knew the bandmember of Mouse Rat from Parks and Wildlife years ago. "Location, Location, Location." I don't know how many vacant or parking lots there are, but there wasn't one apparently where Pratt wanted to be. And if you have money (he does, even after a divorce from Anna Farris) and you're a star "they just let you do it."
  6. I've been fascinated by this material ever since the Masters of Jazz cd first came out. . . just wish we had this in excellent sound.
  7. 600×600 102 KB Kenny Burrell “Midnight Blue” Blue Note Japan Platinum SHM-CD (mono) The system has had some changes since I last played this one and . . . DAMN. It sure sounds great.
  8. Bill Evans “Tales–Live in Copenhagen” Elemental Music cd Beautiful music.
  9. “The Complete Dinah Washington on Mercury Vol. 1, 1946-1949” disc 3 I’ve not listened to Ms Washington for a while. She was such a confident singer, and the backings here are always interesting to me.
  10. Feels like winter out there! But our dogwood snapped into bloom, and I heard an owl either greeting me or telling me to “Git” and that was really cool. Starting off the day with: Tom Harrell “Prana Dance” High Note cd A great studio release by this musician who I am appreciating more and more. Hope his health is improving (I’ve heard he canceled a few shows lately for health reasons).
  11. McCoy Tyner “Jazz Roots” Telarc cd I’m not a big Telarc fan (especially not of their house “sound”) but this is solo piano and great performances.
  12. Muzak Records Japan reissued Storyville and Black Lion titles on cd a few years ago and they seemed to have disappeared now. This was a two cd set that has both titles and each of the other releases (Monk, Powell, Gordon, Konitz, Webster, Griffin, Kessel, Jackie & Roy, Teddi King) sounded so much better on these digital releases than I have ever heard them on other cds or LPs. Now playing Marquis Hill “New Gospel” cd I really like Hill’s playing and writing and this earliest one does not disappoint.
  13. Zoot Sims and Bob Brookmeyer “Tonite’s Music Today/Whoee” Storyville/Muzak 2 cd set
  14. “No Problem” made me think of the incredible rendition on this disc so. . . . Barney Wilen Quintet “New York Romance” Venus cd 700×688 101 KB An alternate cover, both covers feature his gal Marie Moor.
  15. Ray Bryant featuring Kenny Burrell “No Problem” Emarcy cd With Peter and Kenny Washington.
