O.K.

But Eric Dolphy, Booker Little, and Jaki Byard will always sound wonderful.  Five decades ago or 500 years hence.  :)

As the past. If you do not move on, it is dead.

All the records we listen to are in the past. Only Chuck can ever hear music NOW, when he's recording it.

Breakfast with the past

Toto Necessite - Azoumounou - CIne 1982 (Cine is the name of the owner, a Haitian guy, nowt to do with the cinema)

Atakora Manu - Disko Highlife - Ambassador 1981 (the Ghanaian label, not any of the others)

Another from Ghana

This is an interesting link for the elder fans .

I had listened to the VOA via long wave in the years after WW II

I too was a listener until VOA Jazz Hour was discontinued round about 1963.

Ronnie is some big guy! I've met Gary and he isn't particularly diminutive.

Ronnie Cuber/Gary Smulyan: Tough Baritones (SteepleChase)

One I would like to listen to.
First-world-problem I guess, but I wonder why Steeplechase has recently reissued LPs (Baker, Shepp, Jordan, Gordon) that were still quite easy to obtain while they never produced any LP from their recent (past 30 years) but rich catalogue.

There are certainly some interesting 180g LP reissues of late. At least one of guitarist Monnette Sudler’s 70s LPs has come out again - those got a bit of a stir/good reviews when they came out but weren’t around for long.

The albums from the CD era probably have more music than would fit on an LP. Re-editing the masters would cause additional costs, while you simply can pull the master tapes of releases from the LP era.

Now is Smulyan a small guy or Cuber a big guy?
