Two batches slated so far: October 20, 2021 November 11, 2021 Looks like some Transition, Argo, Cadet, and United Artists titles too. And one or two Solid State, Decca, and East Wind titles ... Yeah, they come across as smooth jazz-funk lite. Bernie Worrell should've been called in as a consultant.
Posted 25 March (edited) All these reissues (there is a full list - 200 titles - at Discogs ) are suddenly listed as unavailable at amazon.co.jp. This is too fast for all of them to go OOP - they were released in October - November 2021. Same goes for other recent Universal Japan reissue series, e.g. this one. Anybody knows what's happening? Perhaps some manufacturing issues at Universal Japan? Edited 25 March by Д.Д.
Posted 25 March (edited) Perhaps amazon.co.jp has decided to not source these going forward. Looking at a few of these titles on cdjapan.co.jp still shows them "available from supplier." It could be that there was an availability limit on this series (there sometimes/often is on Japanese releases, a set date when they may be no longer available) and amazon Japan may not reorder after that date. I don't know. Though it wouldn't surprise me that they may not be available for too much longer, they seem to be able to be ordered elsewhere. Posted 25 March I am used to seeing six month limits listed on the tray cards of Japanese reissues like that. Makes no sense to me, but there it is.
Posted 25 March (edited) Japan has their very own unique system of cd manufacturing and distribution that is Japan-centric and doesn't really seem to take into account international sales with some exceptions (Sony seems to, their Blu-Spec and Blu-Spec CD2 and SACD releases seem to be kept in print "long time.") As I understand it they at least used to query stores and sales points about upcoming presses, adjust their pressing quantities accordingly, and distribute. They may then repress or remaster and re-release as demand arrives. . . or not. Edited 25 March by jazzbo
