Not to forget his own LPs on Fantasy (notably 3-213 "Modern Music from San Francisco" and 3-225 "Trio").
And actually those and the above two Mode albums come to my mind first when the name of Vince Guaraldi is mentioned. The Peanuts? Not so much ... I watched them on TV as a youngster and read plenty of their cartoon books, but the background music to the TV episodes never did much for me. To me it just tinkled along, and even later I've never felt the urge to revisit them at LP length. Listening in on Youtube to to re-check now hasn't made much of a change either.
Unsurprisingly Vince Guaraldi suddenly found himself with Co-leader billing on the cover when the Conte Candoli album on Mode was reissued on the Premier budget label in the 60s. Shades of Peanuts fame to come?
I'm hoping someday Mosaic will release “The Complete Paul Bley GNP/Savoy/ESP/BYG/Fontana/Polydor/IA/Limelight or whatever Recordings 1957-1970.” Not holding my breath, though. For now, I wish at least someone would properly release Fontana's ‘Blood’ and Limelight's “Mr. Joy.”
