  3. Today
  4. Dang, I recognized Santana but not Abraxas, which is one of the albums I'm most familiar with. I saw Bill Ware play live in fall of 2024. I got the impression he's currently NY based. Didn't know about the Philly background.
  5. Ordon Welles, flaws and all. Among others ..
  6. you are right about that -- looks like their last IG post was a year ago today. I got the feeling that they, like many small labels at this point in time, were doing too much on a minimum of resources. Perhaps they are taking a rest.
  7. RIP to one of the greats
  8. RIP. Have so much Stax stuff he's on.
  9. RIP, saw him with George Benson decades ago, and have a couple of those Cadet albums.
  10. glad someone said Akerman! Jarmusch is up there for me as well. I'll add: Paul Schrader Katherine Bigelow Peter Greenaway Abel Ferrara
  11. Chicago - Something In This City Changes People (beautiful piano chords with all three lead singers simultaneously - Terry Kath, Robert Lamm, Peter Cetera)
  12. RIP
  13. Re: vibist - It's Bill Lewis, but not his album. Nonetheless, gold star for even knowing those names - I don't! Correct on #5, Abraxas.
  14. Pedro Almodovar Akira Kurosawa Jacques Tati Terry Gilliam
  15. 5 is the opening track of Abraxas Philly old timer vibists not named Khan or Walt ... Bill Lewis came to mind first, then Bill Ware. Bill Ware fits better.
  16. One of a kind
  17. Rich Perry - Mood (Steeplechase)
  18. The guy could play (and play well) with literally almost anybody. RIP.
  19. Too bad about Upchurch. I didn't know Richard Davis played with Springsteen.
  20. Not really related to new releases, but rather a lack of them: does anyone know what happened to Astral Spirits? They seem to have largely gone dark this year after one release back in March.
  21. It depends on the profile of the outlet. Don Sebesky's obit at Broadwayworld.com didn't mention his jazz work at all. Most Richard Davis obits talked more about him playing with Van Morrison and Bruce Springsteen than Andrew Hill.
