This has been for decades my best friend, my best consolation during dark times. Believe me, I had so much suffering from mid september until now, albeit I did a great recording session and get better musically every day I grow more, but it was just such a bizarre year with such an extreme mixture of tormented soul, suffering, tears, to the highest peaks of enjoyment and love, it made me very very thin but strong on piano. This music, the HEALING SONG is what I needed now that there is hope for a glimpse of "normal life" again, and it is what I needed, I listened closely to each note of this most wonderful music and it let my tears flow, and flow and flow, streams of tears, believe me !

Is this the one, where Jackie McLean plays so fine on a Bossa, something he rarely did ? There was too many Hank Mobley Albums, I love him I love him I love him, but I don´t listen to ALL of his albums. Hank Mobley, especially "Soul Station" and "Workout" are my choices if I once listen to straight ahead jazz, which I don´t do very very often anymore, since I hear other things in my head, more into Free Jazz and jazzrock/funk, late 60´s - early 80´s .....

A lot of badness happening here right now, I got two tracks in and won't be listening to anything for a spell. Sound is good.

Yep, Early Circle plus

Wow! That is cool, and sounding that good in the mid-eighties. Huge Horace nut as well. Thanks for the review, I knew I was going to buy it, but it's reassuring to hear that it's really good! Repackaged as Early Circle? If so, great stuff 👍 My favorite Russell!

Hopefully David and company put on a great show and outdraw the Glenn Miller Orchestra.

Got this one to go with the book. Started listening to it backwards with disc 4. Once I start the book, I'll go in order, but there is some very interesting stuff here that I haven't heard before. Great Cootie, of course!

That’s the ONLY Mosaic I think I’ve ever pre-ordered (out of 40+ Mosaic sets I’ve bought over the last 30 years, including Selects). Not so much for Berliner Jazztage specifically, as it was because I absolutely HATED most of the 32jazz reissues of Woody’s Muse catalog. Especially the ones in those black plastic CD cases — you know, the ones with the adhesive album cover art — uugh!!!!!!

How could you dance with that pole in front of you? See, Holy Ghost is moving now!

I am a huge fan of Horace Silver. In 1984, he played at the Caravan of Dreams in Fort Worth, with Brian Lynch on trumpet and Ralph Moore on tenor saxophone. I heard four sets on a Friday and Saturday night and was blown away by the intensity of the performance. He returned a year later in 1985 with a similar group. Once again, I attended four sets over two nights. The first night was good, but not on the same level as the prior year. I decided to come again anyway, and the first set was the same. Did I imagine how great the music was the last year? For the last set, he announced he was heading to Japan with the group after this engagement, and for the final set the intensity of the prior year returned, as he played songs from the Tokyo Blues. It was awesome. My final live experience was two years later, but this time I was traveling out of town and was only able to hear one set on a Thursday night. This time his group focused on vocals and featured Andy Bey, and (to my tastes), the set was a disappointment. With regard to the new Horace Silver release, so far I have only listened on computer speakers, however, the sound is perfectly fine. The performance is excellent. Joe Henderson is on fire. Really good. The highlights for me are the outstanding alternative version of Song for My Father, and of Sayonara Blues. This is a highly worthwhile release.

Thoughts! Terrific play list! Thoughts on the Alice Coltrane! I need to listen to this. Whatever happened, I hope you and your family are okay... Album jacket always made me uncomfortable, but my opinion, their best record
