how does it sound? Oh yes that’s how I got my Rules of Freedom copy from a record store in Berlin. I didn’t check Discogs and thought I bought a modern legit reissue. I was in a record store after all. Then at night in my hotel I found out it was a bootleg

Miles Davis Quintet “Paris Jazz Festval - Salle Pleyel - 10/1/1964” 2 SACD set from Sony in the 7" packaging series. Disc 1 This is one concert from the recent Sony box set of French concerts, and I enjoy these shows. The SACD may not sound that much different than the cd release, but the subtle difference is audible mainly in dynamic contrast. One of Shorter’s first shows with the Quintet and there’s a sense that the rhythm section is really enjoying supporting hin and prodding him a bit.

I got a crazy expensive original.

So many of these records are sold in credible shops too. It is quite disheartening.

and another bootleg….. this one sounds pretty shitty. Nathan Davis had quite some nice reissues lately but there’s much left to be desired.

Listened in my car back from Tilburg yesterday. Great job Gheorghe! You must be very proud. The singer could definitely sing but vocal jazz is just mostly not for me (with very few exceptions). But that's just personal preference.

A bootleg that’s sounds….. okay but not more than that. Still hoping for a decent reissue. No idea who has Polydor rights right now.

Cold, and going to be another cold day. At least I ran my errands yesterday and can hunker down at home today. I hope. Pulled out “Mingus Big Band '93–Nostalgia in Times Square” Dreyfus Jazz cd This was a great unit and this disc sounds great this morning.

Saturday night in SF: Tortoise Plus "Orcutt Shelley Miller", an avant-rock trio comprised of three highly celebrated figures of experimental music: Bill Orcutt (Harry Pussy), Steve Shelley (Sonic Youth) and Ethan Miller (Howlin' Rain, Comets On Fire)

At the Big Ears Festival 2 years ago they had a mini-festival of Threadgill shows. He played in some, but not all. I think he attended the shows even if he didn't perform. Here, he was applauding Very Very Circus after their show.
