I am sold so I just grabbed the lowest cost copy on amazon of the Sandke. Last year and into this year I have been finding and greatly enjoying those Moss CDs on the label. Heartily recommended.

My favorite quote from the NYT obituary: “Bath toys, teapots, tuned bottles of water, bicycle pumps, chairs, dolls, anvils and even his own beard were among the items he employed. While recording the album “Slaves Mass” for Warner Bros. Records in 1976, he brought a pair of live pigs into the studio and “played” them as if they were bagpipes, incorporating their squeals into the mix.”

This is a phenomenal album. This is on streaming services only, not physical releases. The reasoning behind it I'm not so clear on.

Thanks for clearing that up. There seems to be a lot of confusion about the pronunciation. For example, Marc Myers had a JazzWax column (that website seems to be down for the moment or gone) where he wrote: >>> JazzWax: May 2023 jazzwax.com https://www.jazzwax.com › 2023/05 › page May 18, 2023 — He was 29. JazzWax note: Wade Legge's name was pronounced Wade LEDGE-ee, not LEDGE-ay. >>> Also, note the tune on Legg's 1953 album on Vogue, also issued on Blue Note, has a tune called "Wade Leg's Blues." That would suggest the possible "leg" pronunciation. Here's a shot of the Blue Note cover: Finally, here's a broadcast where Bob Garrity pronounces it as "Leggy" at about 6:14 in. I guess I'll go with "Leggy" in the future.

Fake Bob Crosby Mosaic on Jazz Messengers?

All seems logical now but how is a copy leaking to a European seller and before any peep from Mosaic? I didn't even think they went to production until after a pre-sale period. -

Jazz Messengers in Barcelona just offered a number of oop box sets they acquired from a private collection: https://www.jazzmessengers.com/en/mosaicboxsets-1713?mc_cid=dd2d2338a0&mc_eid=494fec5cfc

Catalog number is #283, right after the Sanders set, so it does seem legitimately forthcoming and likely mistakenly included among the used items. -

No, Mosaic has not released a set at this time. I think that JM has jumped the gun, I would expect a Mosaic announcement soon, possibly via Sundy Gazette. -

I wish Ford would play in the Boston area again. I haven't seen him play in decades. He was scheduled last year - in February - and guess what? It snowed like hell and he couldn't make the gig. On top of that, the venue he was scheduled at was a tiny place that seats maybe 60 people and not one of the bigger venues in the area. -

So that was earlier this year ... did Mosaic issue a set and not make an announcement? Or is this some sort of early reviewer copy, before they even hint at a release schedule? -

Fwiw, Steinmann mentions that such a set is in the works and that he's kind of involved here https://jazzlives.wordpress.com/2025/02/04/a-swing-concert-for-joe-sullivan-april-18-1937-congress-hotel-chicago/ -
