    Carla Bley

There was a long history with Bley/Mantler and Eicher. Their New Music Distribution Service provided ECM with their first real American outlet, and Eicher never forgot the favor. NMDS was a wonderful thing for so much music and musicians. Check it out: https://insheepsclothinghifi.com/carla-bley-new-music-distribution-service/

  9. Last Chance To Help Us Reach Our Goal First of all, a huge thank you to those who have already made their year-end donation. I will be sending out the official thank you letters soon which you can use for tax purposes. If you haven't made your donation yet there is still time to get it in prior to the end of the calendar year. Activity We’ve been busier than ever but had to put our yearly festivals on hold because we are in the process of moving the entire archive to a better location. It's been more involved and more expensive than expected and has affected revenue in a major way. It's vital that we make up for it with a year end fundraising campaign. HOW YOU CAN HELP We’ve had a huge amount of expenses this year and very little revenue. We can’t possibly get all of this done without your help. We feel what we are doing is very important and I hope you agree. Please consider making an end of year donation. It will go towards the move of the archive, the shelving, the web-site and important preservation materials. It will also help make a 2026 event possible. We are a 501 (C) (3) non profit corporation and donations are tax deductible. It’s important to get your donation in before the end of the calendar year. It will benefit us and it will benefit you when it’s time to do your taxes. Please donate what you can. Everything helps and it all adds up. HOW TO DONATE There are four easy options. 1. You can use your credit card through PayPal using our PayPal account which is sound_collections@yahoo.com (there is an underscore _ between sound and collections. 2. You can use Zelle with phone number (562)743-8427 3. You can call with credit card (562)743-8427 4. Mail a check to Los Angeles Jazz Institute 403 N. Escondido Blvd. #454 Escondido, CA 92033 I hope to hear from you soon. Sincerely, Ken Poston P.S. We have just a handful of the new Members Only 5 Disc set: Music recorded live at Zardi's Jazz Club in 1955-56 featuring Stan Kenton, Shorty Rogers and Stan Getz. Those are available at the $125 membership level.
  10. I got to thinking about how the author of the Junior Cook biography had census information about Junior and his parents so I went searching ... it took a little while to find but I can definitely affirm that is the Percy France's signature on the draft registration card. Entirely coincidental but he and I share a middle name.
  11. The Loren Schoenberg Jazz Orchestra Recordings are very good.
  12. Nice tune. And interesting that it was released in Europe via ECM but it wasn't recorded or mixed by Eicher, nor were his studios used.
