What live music are you going to see tonight?
jlhoots replied to mikeweil's topic in Live Shows & Festivals
Fri. night - David Sanchez: Carib -
That’s an excellent question!!

I'm reluctant to sell stuff -- even duplicates -- for that very reason. Coincidentally, Craft has reissued Amazonas in their "Jazz Dispensary" series. So you could easily obtain that one again. 😉

The photos on some of those Historical Series albums are sometimes...unique!! He's a happy fella, ain't he now!!!

Charlie Parker- The Complete Birdland Recordings
ladenso1 replied to cho's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
Thanks to everybody who replied and sorry for the late reply. I timed the track Kenny W played. It does run 4:48. I had looked at Losin's listing of Bird's recordings of "I Can't Get Started" before I posted, but when I saw that the only one he listed at Birdland runs only 1:09 I assumed he had missed the one that Kenny played. Seeing Phil Schaap's view is very helpful in understanding that there's a lot of uncertainty about this track. -

Go Guardians go! Future HOFer Jose Ramirez, Steven Kwan, and seven other “bats” in witness protection. Scrappy as hell. Will eventually succumb to teams w much larger payrolls, but fun for now.

I learned recently that sometime in the late 1950s or possibly very early 1960s, Nelson Riddle wrote some arrangements for Count Basie. These were apparently played live by the Basie band, but not recorded. In 1962, Riddle gave four of the arrangements to British Bandleader Vic Lewis, who recorded them for a UK EP titled Vic Lewis Swings Nelson Riddle. https://www.discogs.com/release/11391413-Vic-Lewis-Vic-Lewis-Swings-Nelson-Riddle?srsltid=AfmBOopYLbhLVZrSkgJZaU4aCj7trkcQH6EClXH1tvGTrgk8qT3xsv8J I can't find these on the InterTubes, but here is a recent live video of one of the arrangements.

I must have played that LP a thousand times back then when it was new. Sold it several years ago to gain shelf space, as I had the CD. But now that I researched the discography of Tjader and was so much involved, I somehow regret I sold some of the LPs.

Another old thing I found digging through some of my dad's old stuff. George Yarocki has been gone quite a while now too. George and my dad knew the ins & outs of those old Indian motorcycles like no one else. A lot of that knowledge is gone now. -

Haha! He is very much a real person.
