Memphis has big "shoes" to fill... I enjoy that Haden a lot but feel it's not quite up to heights of other LMO albums I knew that, just didn't want anyone to be confused

Fake Bob Crosby Mosaic on Jazz Messengers?
Dan Gould replied to colinmce's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
Too weird! and of course that Mosaic release number is fake ... I am online friends with Michael Steinman who supposedly wrote the booklet. I should reach out to him. -
-
JM sent out an email with a cache of used Mosaic sets, and this jumped out at me immediately. Is it a fan-made set? What's with the (presumably?) fake PR from Mosaic? Very odd ... https://www.jazzmessengers.com/en/106579/bob-crosby/classic-decca-rec-orchestra-and-bob-cats-36-42?mc_cid=dd2d2338a0&mc_eid=96816ee3b9

Thyme flies! TRACK ONE - I like the Rhodes. Tune is familiar, but no specific ID comes to mind. TRACK TWO - Woody-ish, but not nearly as much fire. Sounds like early Kenny Garrett in spots, more on my phone than on the PC tho. Good rhythm section. Maybe a notch about the horns, imo. TRACK THREE - Tune up, trumpeter, this is a record!!!! All things considered, not particularly impressive, imo. TRACK FOUR - Not a favorite tune of mine )sorry, I'm NOT in heaven...), but this is competent. he trumpet sounds like a valve trombone in the lower register, which is both weird and fun! Not enjoying the piano that much, fluid but facile, Trumpeter has a good sense of pacing, I like that. TRACK FIVE - Wow, like the 70s, but digitally recorded! I kept waiting to start not liking this, but it never got there. I'm happy about that. It feels more organic than I ws expecting. This is good! TRACK SIX - Nope. Corny as fuck. Nope. TRACK SEVEN - Almost as corny as the one before. California? TRACK EIGHT - Retro 70s, ok, but what's the point? That they learned how to do that? Then mission accomplished! TRACK NINE - Well now! Gots a good groove, I would dance to it if I could dance, and I'm sure that other people have! Works for me! TRACK TEN - "Better Than Anything", other that as done by Irene Kral, I don't know that I like it that much. One of those songs for people who aren't really hip, if you know what I mean. Singer needs JUST a bit more attention to pitch. Guitarist is crafty! If it wasn't Bobby McFerren & Stanley Jordan then it could have turned ionto that with a littel voodo. TRACK ELEVEN - Jaws & Sweets. You saved the best for next-to-last! TRACK TWELVE - Jaws had a SOUND. Whoever this is has a tone. A tone takes practice. A SOUND that character. Make mine sound, although these days tone is all tghe rage. Oh god, there for a quick second, that sounded like Cewey...is this Joshua. Yeah, good tone, good tempo, but still...make mine SOUND. So yeah, some of this stuff flipped my Grump Switch, but not all of it did. Thanks for getting in there and doing it, appreciated!
