  6. Rich Perry - Mood (Steeplechase) Have been returning to this marvellous quartet album countless times. And it won´t end. A dream team with the fabulous Harold Danko at the keys. Probably Perry´s masterpiece.

  10. Much as I hate the Dodgers and their limitless supply of dollars, Tucker to them leaves a nice domino to fall: Bidding war for Bellinger leaves Yankees out of the running or in a major over pay especially on the years. I would have liked to see the Sox go after Bichette but after Toronto's efforts to get Tucker to sign I have little doubt the Jays will bring him back now. The Sox probably have no more signings left but they do have pitching and outfield depth to swing a deal for a 3B or a 2B. But Tucker neither in NY or Toronto is a big deal for all the teams in the AL East.
  11. Fred Hersch Trio “Live in Europe” Palmetto cd
  12. I woke up relieved to see there was no snow overnight, none since early evening. . . after receiving a total of 16" in the previoius 24 hours. We are expecting more this afternoon and evening though, so shoveling is still in my immediate future! It’s cold right now, 13 degrees. Starting the day off with Jerry Garcia “Live at the Warwick,” disc 2. 1991 is not my favorite period for Jerry, but there is some great performances in this set, especially keyboard work.
  13. Like Paul Chambers (love him now)! Elvin Jones' style took like a decade for me to appreciate his drumming. Love it now: brash, bombastic, yet can be soft and timbered. Wow! Still digging this exquisite set:
  14. I would like to return to the question of possible musical encounters between Don and Cecil. To my knowledge, no documented evidence confirms that they ever played together — although it seems quite plausible that they did. For this reason, I would be grateful for any information of the following kind: Henry Grimes (or any other musician, enthusiast, or collector) once mentioned that Don and Taylor played together… I hope my question is sufficiently clear, and that readers understand the spirit of what I am asking. I should also mention that I have already written about this topic in the past and received some helpful replies. However, now that I believe I understand better how our forum works, I would like to gather everything in a single thread — and, from now on, to keep each topic unified in its own place.
  15. January 16 Aldo Romano - 1941
  16. Recorded in November 1956.
  17. I think so, and your hypothesis about how it was lost could also be correct. I only have that information, which should be correct. I think so, and your hypothesis about how it was lost could also be correct. I only have that information, which should be correct.
  18. thats some music I like ! I don´t think I know it. I think once I saw a Pablo record of Benny Carter with "In a Mellow Tone" on it, very fine, but this seems to be another record. Anyway I like those lesser known Pablos, not all that Oscar Peterson stuff of which Norman was so fond of, no....more those he maybe didn´t get the same top billing though they the greatest, like Benny Carter, Like Eddie Lockjaw Davis (I only would have wished Jaw´s album had another pianist....)......
  19. Thanks for sharing. It´s soooo great you wish it might never end ! I love them all and though I didn´t hear them in that component as being too young for that, but sure heard each of those men separatly. At the start there is such a long pseudo analysis reading, I just can´t stand that kind of bla bla bla, reads like that corny JEB shit that was around in the 70, as someone who thinks he can explain everything.... No words needed for that music, its just great. And I say KEIKKO, Elvin´s wife was a great musician, I mean I really dig the stuff she composed. This "Childrens Merry Go Round" is outa sight, so great, simple as it is. I always wonder if she was a studied musician or a natural musician, I think the latter..! Maybe I´m wrong but somehow I have the impression that she just does it from her heart and soul, and that´s the most natural thing. As kids might tell the truth and if you let em talk you can learn some lessons just from them... I never treated kids like kids..... my own not, others not.... And back to Keikko she HAS SOMETHING that´s so GREAT !!! With those simple little melodies. And I tell you one thing: If it is true that she does it just out from feeling, not from schooling, I think I am the most lucky man on this planet since the wonderful girl I stay with she also has that quality....never learned to play a piano, never learned to read music, but what she does if she touches them keys is just magic, so simple and nevertheless you can´t imitate it, so great. She has the name of the Egyptian God of the Sun, and......watch out my next record, there´s a tune that´s based on one of her little spontanous ideas, what she figured out on the piano keys. I have played that piano all my life long but I think I LEARN from her more about music than the I had learned all my life 🤣
  20. Well ..you kinda can with this one, it's a bit of a mess...but not his fault. It's an entertaining mess anyway . See the production notes here,: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Today_We_Live Just finished with one of the films that is said to have caused the end of the Pre-Code period: Barbara Stanwyck fucks her way up the ladder and doesn't give a damn who she ruins in the process Pre-Code like a mo, even if it does have a "happy" ending
  21. Same nostalgia for me - the Neumanns were friends.
