A European friend who ( I believe) was at the Webster/Byas recording session told me that the 2 tenor men were so drunk that the music was way way below an acceptable level. We should also remember that there are many many many high quality recordings by both Webster and Byas.

Many years ago, I wanted to get Bird albums with all the alternative tracks included. Now many decades later, I much prefer to listen to Bird (and others) without all the numerous alternate tracks one after another. Yes, it is possible on CDs to program things to only listen to one track for each tune. But that becomes somewhat of a hassle when you just want to sit down and enjoy the music.

IIRC (and I often don't) he posted here that his wife had had him involuntarily hospitalized. but that he's managed to escape?

EKE BBB I am only missing the 2 Colpix Bossa Nova albums from your list. As I recall, they were not PRIME examples of Zoot.

Huh. For quite a while, Dave Douglas' birthdate was nowhere to be found on line. It wasn't in the All Music guide either. I always wonder how old he was. He's almost the same age as me.

I would think Larry is important enough among journalists and writers that news like that would make it into social media. (Although it is true as you age that there are fewer people who know you IRL to pay tribute or make sure tribute is paid.)

Are you talking about Dexter on Blue Note? Just reissuing the earlier box with better mastering would be 6 CDs. Add in Herbie Hancock's "Takin' Off" and it might be 7.
