Which Mosaic Are You Enjoying Right Now?
Stompin at the Savoy replied to Soulstation1's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
I think much or all of the metadata ends up in the Gracenote database (and probably others) based on whoever first popped the cd into some application and updated the database. For example sometimes when I have gotten a very recent Mosaic set, the metadata was not set up in applications like iTunes and I had to enter it myself. -
Just arrived from Japan and I had to put it into the transport. . . . “John Coltrane Quartet Plays” Impulse/Universal Japan SHM-SACD

IIRC, at least some of those Honeydew Elvin albums had exceedingly long drum solos, which made them hard listens for me, even though I'm a big fan of his leader work in general.

Now on to this classic, in mono form. Herbie Hancock “Maiden Voyage” Blue Note Japan Platinum SHM-CD And then More mono, this time re-listening to disc 4 of this great new Mosaic set. 300×300 17.8 KB Classic Decca Recordings Of Bob Crosby And His Orchestra & The Bob Cats (1936-1942) It’s interesting that this band grew out of the Ben Pollack band, a band I’ve always enjoyed.

I don't think one can hold Mosaic responsible for the "tagging" of the digital files uploaded. -

Someone who digitized the recordings, I guess? So wasn't Mosaic involved at some point (remastering, for example??) in this process for each of these recordings that went into their releases? Even if they weren't the first to have digitized the music. -

Don Byas? Pop?? This??? What were they thinking at Mosaic?? I could understand the "pop" tag with some of his French ballad recordings from the 50s, but here?? -

I'll have to pull my cdr of that session out. In my recollection, it's neither as bad as Cuscuna made it out to be, nor necessarily as good as what did come out around that time.

Up for renewed reading. I'd forgotten about the Steve Lehman interview.

I didn't create the artwork, but I think a member of this board did. (I can't remember who.) The image has been floating around the internet for a while. I agree that it's excellent.

Maybe in conjunction with Michael Garrick? I'm not sure how many discs a Harriott set would be. I'd support the endeavor.

That shirt design could be trying to make a point that the music of Strata-East is no longer outsider music and is now staking it's claim astral and true American music and by extension real America. If that's the intent, then that's a pretty radical notion itself

Bread Of Angels, her new memoir, is supposed to be good.
