Disc One I am reading his book A Cure for Gravity, so I opened this up.

Hawkwind - Love in Space

The first six tracks were an Eddie Harris LP on VeeJay: I wanted to have that for a long time, and this compilation was the easiest way to find it on CD. Schifrin was the most outfageous of all bossa nova pianists! Highly recommended. Jordi Pujol's liner notes are a perfect outline of Schifrin's career.

Tastes in these things are different, but I would not consider the majority of the material in the 1966 box set "unlistenable." There are a few that are more difficult to listen to than most, but man the music is really . . . something.

Brilliant answer to Moving Pictures! Unlike the records that followed 2112, which got more and more multi-layered and complex, which I really like (love Hemispheres and Farewell to Kings) Signals was not an attempt to "how do you top that?" I think that's what I really like about this album. It is not a follow-up to Moving Pictures.

I have the UMS edition, can you tell us "Stange Strings" fans if the expanded version is worth the upgrade? Recently purchased the New World Records of Being released at the end of February.

Have been really enjoying this box set. I think I read somewhere that if Paul Desmond recorded a solo record that he was not allowed under contract to record with another pianist? Cool with me. Jim Hall is fantabulous on these sides.

A good portion of that set is unlistenable due to poor bootleg audio quality (it was a copyright protection set), but it tends to be very inexpensive for its size. Do go for an expanded Cutting Edge set (I have the six-CD version).

The 2-CD highlights version of Through the Open Window and a review by a critic friend persuaded me to opt for the full-blown deluxe set: Just as Mark Lewisohn’s Beatles bio Tune In lit a deeper interest in their formative years for me, last year’s A Complete Unknown film stoked my interest in Dylan’s earliest years, so I’m really going to enjoy the deep dive that this set offers. I thought the 2-CD version would suffice, but it only whetted my appetite to hear and read even more. This is only the third deluxe bootleg box I’ve purchased, preceded by The Complete Basement Tapes and the Rolling Thunder Revue set. I’ll probably eventually pick up the expanded Cutting Edge collection as well. On the fence about the full-blown 1966 Live leviathan.

Knockout version of “Begin the Beguine” by Boyd Raeburn’s band near the end of disc 3 (arrangement by Johnny Richards). Also recently encountered big-band singer Dorothy Claire on a new CD of Glenn Miller’s Chesterfield broadcasts and was pleasantly surprised to hear her again on the V-disc set with Raeburn’s orchestra. She did a stint with Bob Crosby in 1939 but doesn’t appear on the Crosby Mosaic, which omits most of that band’s vocal sides (but does include a couple of vocals from Teddy Grace, another lesser-known fave of mine among swing-era singers).

I have dozens of various Northern Soul anthologies, which are dirt cheap and filled with great 60's music.

The weekend, and Valentine's Day so here is Easy Living, featuring Bob Neloms, from the Flamingo Cafe, March 23, 1986 and Leonard Gaskin's ever-present tape recorder. (Roy Francis is seen on bass but it's Leonard on the tape.)
