  1. Yesterday
  2. I just realized that Red Hook Records released a second volume of this last fall. Anyone heard it? The set alternates standards and improvisations.
  3. Attila Zoller/Don Friedman, Metamorphosis (Presige/Germany)
  4. And does Allen still have copies of the Endgame? I would be in at 4x the original cost in this thread.
  5. One thing that never fails to amaze me about Ellington is how different the arrangements of a tune can be at different performances. Seems like he and Strayhorn were always tinkering with arrangements and sometimes drastically revising.
  6. Now, some Milt Jackson -- with Lucky Thompson in a sideman role:
  7. Greg Osby “The Invisible Hand” Blue Note cd 500×500 39.2 KB A great release. Osby. . .Hill . . . Hall. . .
  8. RIP. I particularly like a few of the Fish discs, though I haven’t delved into his solo recordings. First time I heard of / listened to Country Joe was in a 2-disc compilation of Woodstock material, some 40 years ago:
  9. They're from Portland, Oregon -- which explains the name of the group. Per Discogs, the trio only made a four records for Origin between 2003 and 2012. No idea whether they're still performing as a unit.
  10. There's always something "new". I've never heard of any of these musicians.
  11. Now: 2-LP set originally released as Goodbye Yesterday (1973) and I Offer You (1973). Gorgeous music. So soulful.
  12. Not least of all because you did a very good job at documenting his doings.
  13. Please see www.percyfrance.info (a hundred green smilies). but seriously its funny to go back to this post, 21 years later, when I needed a handy image of I Should Care and google brought me to it. A long strange trip it's been. PERCY FRANCE LIVES!
  14. Okay, this is a little weird, in a dream last night I remember cellos, and my Dad. The cello was one of his favorite instruments, and so I plucked this from the shelf to listen to, Weilen Kuijken and Jordi Savall performing Sieur de Sainte-Colombe. These SACDs sound wonderful. (And yes, they are not cellos!)
